While I was shopping yesterday I realized I have no clue what to dress DS in for the winter. I'm used to 60-70 degree weather (15-21c). Do you layer? DH says we'll have to get a snowsuit. Is he right? He hasn't lived in ON since 92 and "fashion" may have changed.
Also what are some of your favorite stores to buy babies/kids clothing? Help a clueless, soon to be transplanted, Californian out.
Re: Calling Canadian Mommies
Depends where you are. Ontario is warmer than where I'm originally from and where we live now.
Your LO will definately make use of long sleeves, sweaters, pants and socks as far as indoor clothes. At far as outdoor attire? Touqes (hats), mittens and scarfs are a must. You will need a snowsuit of sorts, but try look for one that's not too bulky b/c they aren't safe in carseats. Those snuggle me things and blankets are good for carseats. You don't really need winter boots until baby is bigger or your snowsuit is footless. I think we're going to get DS a 2 pc snowsuit b/c that way he can just wear the jacket separate or with snow pants. LO's get easily frost bitten so covering them up even when you think it's not that cold is a good idea.
It's not as cold as everyone makes it out to be. The snow is beautiful!
Hello
I believe you are moving my way! DH is right & wrong....They do not liek you to use a big bulky snowsuit with the carseat as LO will not be buckled into the carseat snuggly enough, as most infant snowsuits aer so roomy. We registered for & got a bundle me by JJ Cole. They sell them at Babies R Us here & probably in the US as well. It attaches to the carseat & is almost like a sleeping bag, LO first in is buckled securly in the seat with juts a regular outfit on & then you zip up the bag. They are super soft & cozy looking, it is also good in case you go for a longish drive & have the heat on you can unxip the bag & LO won't overheat, as they may if you had a big snoesuit on. You may still want to get LO a snowsuit for walks etc. or when they are bigger & going in & out of a convertibel carseat. Just a jacket may be more comfy for LO tho.
It does get super cold here & LO will need a hat & mitten as ewll either way.
Here is a photo of the one we got, I believe Jolly Jumper makes a version as well. you can also buy ones that fit over the carseat but I don't think they are warm enough for our winters! They also have a bundle me Lite version for fall.spring!
Favourite stores: Children's Place, Walmart, Zellers, Bonnie Togs, Sears, the Bay (there is a large mall in the city you're moving to...no shortage on stores with kids stuff!)
For the stroller:
At Babies r us or depending on DS's size this winter... this.
As for clothing: we're not sure what we're buying A for outside yet (perhaps a joint mommy shopping trip is in order?!?) . We'll probably buy him a snowsuit for outside walks in the stroller, sled etc. Example or this. But as someone said, you can't use a carseat with a snowsuit properly, so the carseat bag will probably work better.
For indoor clothing: Pants, sweatshirts, socks... just layers will suffice.
Thanks for the advice, ladies, keep it coming
Yes, we are moving to Guelph.
Oh, and we do get some wicked storms in this area. And it does get cold. You're going to need some winter gear for yourself too.
That's not far to go. Maybe you'll be my shopping buddy and hold my hand. LOL
Pretty soon you won't need snow suits. Ontario is the new south don't you know??
?Gotta love Global Warming. Not.?
