Feb Ladies - Baby Shower

Have you put any thought into your baby shower. My MIL, who was not really involved with anything wedding related, is super excited about the baby shower. She keeps asking about it and my ideas. My MIL and Mother will be doing everything together and they have been asking me about a date. With them working together on this the list will be mighty long too. We will do co-ed, both sides of the family and friends. It will basically be our wedding all over again. We only invited close family and friends to our wedding.

I'm used to showers being about 2 months prior to the due date, which would put us in December. The only thing is I really want to avoid the holidays as much as possible. I just think this month is too busy to then throw a shower in there for everyone, including me. I have debated about Late October, early Novermber and early Jan. What is everyone else's thoughts on it?

Re: Feb Ladies - Baby Shower

  • We are doing late october/early november.

  • Haven't thought about it at all! But true, 2 months out is right around the holidays. Tongue Tied

  • I think my showers will  be either sometime in November, or the first weekend of December. We're trying to avoid the holidays as much as possible.

  • I am having two showers - on the first and third Saturdays of November. It seems a bit early to some, but you can simply explain that you didn't want to interfere with holidays and/or bad weather. I'm due Feb. 3, so I have a slight advantage over someone who has a due date at the end of Feb (with a November date, anyway). You can do up to 4 weeks before, but it all depends on when you are due, and what is convenient for your mom and MIL.
  • :::visiting from 1st tri:::::

I know what you mean, my Mom and Sister were contemplating this too.  They were either going to have it in early November or early january.

I told them I would prefer early January. I felt like Early november would be too early for me. So, they settled on 1/10/10.

...But, I'm due at the very end of Feb.

  • I'm thinking early January...after the crazy holidays are over.

ETA: My mom's throwing me a g2g 'shower' after baby is born.  I don't really want to fly home (even though it's only an hour flight) 4-5 weeks before I'm due and my mom's not ready to throw the shower in early November so a January shower would be here (which is not in the works)

  • I wondered what everyone else was doing.  I think mine are going to end up bring late october/early november too.  waiting until January just seems like cutting it too close.  Huh?

  • I still need to discuss it with my friend who will be throwing the shower, but at this point I am planning on early to mid nov. My sil is due the end of oct, so I don't want to be too close to her due date. Our luck they baby would come the same time as the shower and then I couldnt be there! But I do want to avoid all the holidays.

  • My EDD was 1/27. I had mine 11/9. I'd go for mid-November.

  • I'm early Feb and having a baby shower in Jan would probably leave me with the 9th. Will I even be able to enjoy my baby shower at this point..lol. They will have to prop me on a chair and make everyone come to me. Sorry, this is all I keep picturing.
  • My mom/aunt are planning my out-of-town-family shower for 11/7 (28wks).
  • My family is throwing it the first Sat in Dec and his family is throwing me one 2nd Sat in November. They had a hard time picking dates seeing as it's right smack in the holidays!

    I'm due Feb 1st.

  • my sister already told me she's throwing me a shower. As I live 500 miles from my family, we decided Thanksgiving weekend is the best time to have it, as Christmas this year is with my ILs

eta: my sister is pg and due Nov 1 and I live in Canada, so end of Nov is probably the only time to do it to avoid her giving birth, the holidays, and me having to travel in the snow

  • No one has even broached the subject of a baby shower with us..Sad

I am sure we will have at least two, but my dh's family tend to be kinda last minute.

  • I think mine will be in early/mid January.  I'm due 2/21 and early November just seems too early - it's over 3 months from my edd.  I agree about wanting to avoid the holidays, so therefore probably the 2nd or 3rd weekend of Jan?

  • My MIL was asking me the same thing.  Thinking early - mid November?  I don't want to get too close to the holidays and January is to late.

Traditionally in our family the shower is always a surprise, so I have no clue when they plan on throwing the shower. But I actually didnt even think about the fact it falls around the holidays. I'm due 2/18 so I think early January might work, I dont think that's cutting it too close.

  • :: popping in from 1st Tri ::

I have been wondering the same thing.  BFF wanted to do the shower, and my mom wants to help.  Due to distance, it'll probably be at my house though.

We were discussing holidays, and I'm due 2/19, so we'll probably wait until January to do the shower.  November is just so early.

  • Family is talking about throwing one in January, but I want it sooner than that to have everything ready!
  • The only one in the works is one my friends want to throw me at home (1500 miles away).  Since we're all scattered over the country, they're going to throw the shower over Thanksgiving weekend, since most people will be home!

  • I live out of town from my side of the family - - so my mother suggested doing it the weekend after thanksgiving since most of the family would be in town for the holiday. Plus I live in snowy Pennsylvania and would like to avoid any unecessary 3 hours trips home in December and January.

My mother-in-law said she would be throwing me one most likely in January, closer to my due date of Feb 21st.

  • I'm receiving a shower hosted my mom and MIL on the saturday after Thanksgiving - we're out of town now, but they insisted!  It works out best for our schedules and theirs and avoids me traveling too close to my due date when I'm bound to be uncomfortable!

  • I am having mine on Nov 8th, I wanted to do it before the holidays and they told me the twins could come anytime after 34 weeks.  So we wanted to get it done early and enjoy the holidays and then the babies!
  • My families each like to do their own different things. If I count correctly I will probably have 4 baby showers. My mom's family: They like to attach baby showers and wedding showers to holidays because the family is rather spread out and its difficult to get together. So that showers will either be Thanksgiving or Christmas. (I hope it's Thanksgiving)  My dad's family: this shower will be planned at the last minute I mean "Oh, her due date is next weekend, lets have the shower this weekend." DH's family: They are very random, sometimes they plan ahead and sometimes it's last minute, but they will do it in plenty of time before the baby arrives. Friends: The people who volunteered to plan this party are very wonderful, well meaning, but scattered people. I wouldn't be surprised if by the time it's time to have a baby shower they will have forgotten all about voluntering to host it.

So in all honesty I have no idea when I will have my shower(s) but I don't really care, just so long as I don't have to plan them! Big Smile

  • I live in a different state from my family, so since I'll be in town for Christmas, we decided to have a shower on December 27.  It's not ideal, but whattayagonnado?

  • Well we have just had the same discussion in our hous etoo..we live in  CT so late dec and Jan are very snowy weather for us..Also with the holidays it does make it a it tricky with planning around everything else going on...I can tottaly agree..so I think in regareds to having enough time and also having everyone avablie to coem we are looking at last week in Nov or fist week in Dec...

so many lil things to worry about also to prepare You take care of you mostly and let it all work it self out because no matter what soemone or something will not work right but you have to except that and enjoy what does work out!

  • My DD was born February 8th, due the 6th. We had my showers in early January. Both sides of the family were at the same one because DH's family is tiny. I had my friends a week later at my house. That way I didn't have to pack up the car and everything. Plus they all got to see the baby's room!
  • I'm due in December but i got married in the beginning of February and was having the same problem in regards to the shower.  Didnt want to have it right before or after the holidays.  We had my shower in the middle of November and it worked out great.

  • I had no choice on the one my cuz is throwing me...as soon as she found out she told me to be ready for it on the 12th of Dec...and my other is the first weekend in Dec I think, she still hasn't come up with a def date though. I know I am getting bothered about lists of who I want to come and what all I want to do...
