Did you eat before your Level II Ultrasound?

Doctor's office left a message for me to eat breakfast before my ultrasound (it's at 7am).  I am just wondering what the reason for eating before is and if you know of any certain foods that are better to eat than others?! If that even matters...

  • Huh. I wonder if it helps the little one move around a bit more so they can get all of the pics.

I did not eat before mine.

  • Yup, I had a cinnimelt from McDonalds. It was quite delicious. :)

  • Yes, I ate. Mine was in the middle of the day and I was starving by then, so I scarfed down a sandwich beforehand.

As for why... I don't really know, but maybe to make the baby more active? Or to put them to sleep so they cooperate and aren't squirming around while the tech is trying to get pics? Obvs I have no idea, just guessing.

  • I ate before my u/s. I had an egg & cheese muffin and a glass of orange juice to make sure baby was awake.
  • I just drank some juice to get him moving.

  • I wasn't told to eat before mine, but if i don't eat every couple of hours I get really dizzy and black out.  I guess my question would be why not eat?
  • Hmmm... I did not eat, just had some apple cider. DH and I went out to breakfast afterwards.

  • My ultrasound was at 3:30 and I ate a lunch (around 12:30) of crackers and cheese and a chocolate pudding snack. I also drank a full bottle of water and a can of cherry Dr. Pepper (around 2:30-3:30) and he was moving around in there like crazy! Good luck!

  • I know I had breakfast before mine, but I couldn't tell you what I ate. My u/s was at 10:00 AM. I would have been starving if I hadn't had anything by then.

  • I just met with my midwife today and she said specifically to eat something before I get to the office and to bring some juice or water with me to drink in the waiting room.  That way the baby will be awake and possibly moving, so they can get the best measurements.  If the baby is asleep and in a positing that they can not get a good view of the neck, spine, umbilical cord, etc. and they are not able to work with the baby to move around, they would have to bring you back for another ultrasound to get what was missed.
