DH hates even talking about names. He says it's too stressful, which it is for us, so I understand. He said he wants to wait to even think of names until our son is born, and we'll "just know" what he looks like. Yeah right!
I want to have a list. I'm fine with waiting until he's born to name him. DH did talk to me about it yesterday, and we're on the same page so far with Sawyer, Ethan, and Elijah as our top contenders. It's just frustrating that he doesn't love to talk about baby names as much as I do
?
Anyone else's DH/BF/SO like this??
Re: DH and naming issues
I love the name Sawyer but it sounds horrible with our last name.
I hope your H comes around!!!
Why is naming so stressful for you guys? Do you argue about it. We do not have a solid girl's name yet but have settled on a boy's name.
If I propose a name he does not like - I don't go on about it, it is immediately taken off the table and vice versa. That way we don't arugue...
I could not wait all the way until the child is born and then think of a name at the last minute - I know people do it, but I would need at least a list to go off of.
Oh, mine definitely was! It was like the baby name was a wedding dress..."we'll just know when we find it"... I reminded him that it took me 6 months and hundreds of dresses, and then 3 days after I tried mine on to decide on a wedding dress. He asked why I was in such a rush to decide?
I've been having problems connecting with this little parasite, and I wanted to go into the big u/s with two definite names. That convinced him, and we have two lovely first and middle names ready to rock our Thursday u/s!
Just wear him down... he shall relent.
Good luck!!
DH and I don't have this problem. We've had our names for our child (boy and girl) picked out since early 2008, when I had my m/c.
But, I know we will have this problem when when we decide to have child #2
I think narrowing it to 2 or 3 is a pretty good compromise.
DH talked about names with me, but once he picked two he liked, it was over for him, lol. I like the two names we have, but I really wouldn't mind throwing out more possibilities until we get close to the birth - he just doesn't see the point!
Sometimes my DH is this way, it is a little frustrating -- I agree!
We really don't even argue about names at all. I think we're just freaking ourselves out with the fact that naming another human being is a huge responsibility and we don't "know" our son yet. And we won't really "know" him at birth either. Does that make sense? DH joked that we should wait to name him until he's 1.?
My DH was like this the first time around. It was very frustrating. We would talk about it for 10 minutes, come up with a few names and then that would be the end of the conversation. Most of the names he would suggest were jokes. He got more serious about it late in my pregnancy. We were doing name lists when I was 39 weeks pregnant. We named my DS at the hospital off of a list we had made a few days earlier.
He's been a little better this time around.
This is what H said to me the other day regarding names. Keep in mind I am due Jan. 10th/11th. He said: "Well we don't need to have a name until Jan. 9th." hahaha I asked him if he realized that babies can and do come early and I told him no way that would not be our plan.
We have our big ultrasound on Aug. 27th. He finally came around and said we could seriously discuss names after that day. He says he would rather talk names when we know what we are having.
But while we were at the baseball game last night we did come up with a short list of 2 boys names and 4 girls names. This will be our starting points after the 27th.
We have our girl name decided but are unsure about the boy. We've narrowed it down to 3 different boy names, I like one, DH likes one and we both are okay with the other. I have been driving him so crazy that the other day he said - "you just pick, I don't want to keep going over it!"
Little does he know I am now leaning toward his favorite...
