2nd Trimester

18 Weeks and no movement - anyone else?

I know it's normal not to feel it until 20 weeks or so, but it seems like everyone is feeling it earlier.

It's driving me crazy.  I'm at risk for late term loss and stillbirth and I just think my anxiety would be much less if I could feel the baby moving around.

Is there anyone 18 weeks or  later and not feel any movement yet?

  • I can't tell for sure if I have or not. My doctor doesn't seem too concerned by it since it's my first baby.

  • Most people feel it early if it's thier second child and so on and if they were somewhat skinny for the first.
  • I didn't really recognize movement till about 20 weeks.

Yea that really upsets me, i went to one doctor and let them know if i've felt the baby yet and i said yes starting at 14weeks and he was like no that's impossible....But my OB says if i felt and i say yes and they say good so i'm like ahhh? k

  • It may "seem" like people are feeling it early, but I would not say that's the norm.  Most Dr.'s will tell you 20-22 wks for constant movement.  Mine started at 20 and is very constant now at 24.

  • I felt my first real movement around 18-19 weeks, and I think that was early.  But, consistent movement didn't start till after 20 weeks.  Maybe you should rent yourself a fetal heart doppler?  That's a way to ease your anxiety.  I still use mine if the baby hasn't moved around all day just to make sure things are okay.

I started feeling the first flutters in 14 weeks also and my doctor said it was perfectly normal. It definitely isn't impossible and this is my first child. I didn't no for sure what I was feeling until later on when movement became more consistent.

  • I didn't feel DS until 21w1d!  I'm tall and skinny.  With this one, I didn't feel her move until 19 weeks, which is still late compared to most people on this board, and I'm still skinny - can even pass for not being pregnant still.  Not everyone feels it early (and I personally think half the people on these boards want to feel it so bad they imagine other feelings as the baby - not everyone, but some!)  You will feel the baby soon enough, and your big u/s should give you some peace of mind.
  • I felt absolutely nothing until 19 weeks 1 day.  After that, there was a little movement every few days.  It's probably been almost 2 weeks now that I've been feeling a little bit every day (but maybe only once or twice each day).

  • I haven't felt anything yet. I was a little worried, too (who can help but worry about EVERYTHING) but I saw him at my anatomy scan yesterday and he's doing great! So no worries, I'm sure we'll feel them soon.
  • Nothing here, either... hopefully soon!

  • Nothing here yet. My doc said I will feel something before the next appt (at 20.5 weeks).
  • I didn't feel our little girl until about 22 weeks.  I had a few extra pounds of flubber to kick through though.  They say that it can depend on your size.  If you are smaller you may fell the baby sooner, where as if you are larger it might be later.  I feel her daily (multiple times) now!
  • I don't think that I have felt the baby yet either. Every once in awhile I think that I felt the baby but I just don't know for sure. But I wish she would hurry up and show me that she is ok and moving around in there and not just a lazy baby Smile

  • I started to feel movement right around the middle of my 18th week, after a huge glass of really sweet juice.  I had the same concerns as you are having.  If it really does keep you up at night I would recommend getting yourself a doppler so you can ease your fears whenever you want to.

But don't buy one of the cheap ones, you can rent a medical grade version online that will give you much greater reassurance.

    Good luck!

  • I'm in your boat and this is baby #2 - I'm a little worried but my nurse said not to worry.  Sometimes the baby is in a weird position where we can't 'feel' him/her yet.  She also told me b/c I started out thinner this time that it may take longer to feel movement.  When I hit 20 wks then I'll really worry.  Hang in there.  Kel

i am skinny and i still have not felt anything! try not to worry!

  • I really just started feeling things last week when I hit 19 Weeks. I am sure everything is fine, but I understand why you are worried if you are at risk.
  • I didn't feel the first baby kicks/punches until just last week.
