My daughter is 5.5 months old and we just started feeding her rice cereal once a day. She has been so constipated lately, and I attribute it to the cereal. She poops once every 2 days. What a poop that is, though.
My question is, are there any other foods that we can feed her that won't constipate her so much? We have tried applesauce and pureed bananas, but she's just not into it.
Oh, and about how often do you feed them solids at first? Once a day? Twice? Thanks.
Re: ? about starting solids and constipation
Applesauce and bananas will stop her up, they're part of the brat diet for when they have diarrhea.
Call your pedi, but you can put 1oz pear or prune juice in a bottle to help get things going. Also, try using mylicon or gripe water just in case it is only gas.
no, this is accurate !
I have twins and one of them has constipation issues= infrequent, hard/ firm poops.
1- Switched to oatmeal ceral
2- Cut out bananas and applesauce
3- Give pears or prunes in morning
4- Give a small bottle ( 1 or 2 oz) of apple juice watered down.
Still usually only goes every other day- but it is a more normal consistentcy. Also watch for deydration- should have 6 wet diapers a day.
