Carseats: Britax or Evenflo?

Trying to decide on a convertible carseat for our 7month old 20lb DS. Like the Britax Marathon and Roundabout 50 but DH is concerned there isn't enough neck support. I really like the Britax Boulevard, but I heard you can't wash the carseat cover on the Britax models. Is this true? Also, is it hard to tighten the restraints when it is rear-facing? (it looks like that strap will be buried in the seat when rearfacing). Also, any problems reclining the Britax models when rear-facing?

The other brand I'm thinking about is the Evenflo Triumph Advance which also looks nice and have heard good things about. Costs less too, but I don't mind paying more for a seat if it's really a lot better.

TIA.

Re: Carseats: Britax or Evenflo?

  • I have the Britax Blvd with the click and safe.  And yeah the click and safe is worthless while rearfacing cause it's up against the seat.  But I'm sure I'll use it when she forward faces.  I'm about to buy a second seat for our other car and I can't afford another Britax so I'm probably getting the Evenflo Triumph.  I've heard alot of good things about it on here.

  • We have a Britax Marathon. and WE LOVE IT. Its not hard at all, plenty of room. I will buy another one for DC #2, Oh and we also have a Graco Myride for DH truck. Great seat too! Check that one out!
  • You can wash the Britax covers. I wash ours all the time. I just wash them cold/delicate and line dry. It is slightly difficult to tighten rear-facing, but it doesn't bother me as much anymore. I am a pro at it.

No one seat is safer than the others. What matters most is if the seat fits your car properly and your DC properly. People need to take time to read their manuals, and educate themselves on height/weight restrictions, proper installation, etc.

I love my Britax seats, but my cousin bought a Triumph, and she loves hers too. Is there a BRU near you that you can try them out and see?

  • We just got in a car accident last wednesday - and DS was in the Britax Marathon and it didn't move a milimeter! We just bought another one to replace it (apparently after you are in an accident you should replace any carseats...it was the other's person's fault so it will come from her insurance) Seeing how safe this carseat was (I was sitting right next to DS) I will never buy another brand!!!
  • I really like my Roundabout.  It's super easy to get the cover off and throw it in the wash.  I also like Britax b/c you can tether RF.  I will say that DD is still RF and will outgrow her seat soon.  I just ordered a Radian 80, and wish had gotten that seat to begin with.  It''s RF to 40 lbs and FF 5-pt harness to 80 lbs.  She'll never need another seat.

This actually not the case, the insurance company uses the guidelines provided by the car seat manufactor to see decide if needs to be replaced.  They refused to replace ours because the accident didn't meet Britax guidelines for replacement.

  • I want to say I read on Britax's website that they will replace the carseat if in an accident.  Or maybe I just imagined it.

As for the Evenflo, I have heard good things about the Triumph.  DO NOT go with the Titan Elite.  I bought that for my mom to use in her car, and it sucks.  The straps twist into oblivion and it makes getting your LO in and out a huge and long PITA.
