Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD sick all weekend . . . Pedialyte question

DD threw up Friday afternoon and hasn't been able to keep anything but breastmilk down since then.  She isn't nursing as often as usual, so we tried to give her Pedialyte last night.  After 2.5oz, she projectile vomited it all back up (and then some) on DH.  We called the pedi this morning, and although they think it's just a normal virus that needs to run it's course, they're asking us to bring her in to check for dehydration.

DH's best friend and his wife are both pharmacists.  They said some babies just don't like Pedialyte.  Anyone else have problems with it?

Re: DD sick all weekend . . . Pedialyte question

  • My baby doesn't care for it much. I've given her unflavored and orange. Neither made much of an impression and I wasn't really pushing it on her. She loves water though - so I bet you could try that.

  • C didn't like it either when we had to give it to him. ?We spoon fed him about 2 ounces over the course of an hour. ?Then we mixed 3 oz with 3 oz formula, per pedi's suggestion. ?He was able to keep that down.
  • We have offered some plain water, but didn't think about spoon feeding if necessary.  Thanks for the info.  She chewed a small piece of paper off her book last night and that made her throw up, too.  Poor thing.
  • A lot of babies don't like pedialyte b/c it tastes horrible! ?Hope your DD is okay, I'd keep pushing small amounts of fluids frequently. ?Good luck!
