I am asking just out of curiosity. DS has been STTN since 6 weeks - with a swaddle(miracle blanket). two nights ago we started putting him down with no swaddle - he falls asleep in my arms usually - or sometimes i will put him in his crib awake and he will fall asleep to the mobile, but i heard that falling asleep in arms is not good? so i was just wondering about CIO.
We started at 6 months and I just couldn't handle the time it took (4 days)and the amount of crying we endured. We tried again at 9 months with much success! It took us longer (like 3 weeks) but he would only cry for 5 to 10 min and then for a few seconds before he did it without any complaints.
lucky lucky girl dont worry about him falling asleep in your arms. yes, it is great for them to self soothe but he is young and sounds like he does it sometimes anyway.
you can try putting him down awake more but i wouldn't even think about it now. unless it takes you an hour of rocking him, then i personally wouldnt care in the least.
I am a little worried - DS is teething and at night when I put him down (past 3 days) he has been fussy and not wanting to be away from me. When i give him his paci he crys, but if I give him my finger he chomps down and seems better. I have given him little teethers gel before bed for the past 3 nights and as soon as he gets it he falls asleep. is that bad or is it good that means he is getting relief? i don't want to make a habit of it.
in my opinion, teething throws all sleep habits, etc out the window if you have a bad teether. mine is getting her 5th tooth and fussy monster. i had to rock her half way through her nap today and yesterday which NEVER happens. i just figure she needs me because she is in pain.
i have given her tylenol but she is on antibiotics for a sinus infection so i won't.
i dont know much about the gel but if it makes him feel better, i can't imagine it being a problem.
We did it at 4.5 months. From 2 months to exactly 4 months DD was STTN and then just STOPPED and was up 3-5 times a night and wasn't hungry, just awake and couldn't go back to sleep. Pedi suggested CIO and it worked after 3 nights. I eliminated grow spurt, teething, illness etc. Little girl was just waking up and didn't know how to get herself back to sleep. She's pretty much stayed STTN through teething, pneumonia and travel. I know some people think 4 months is too early for sleep training, but it worked for us.
Re: when did you start CIO?
