Bed Rest Momma's, I have a Q!

Question regarding your insurance coverage. While I realize that everyone's coverage will be different. If you had to go on bed rest, did your STD (if you have it) kick in? If so, at some point will your long term kick in or once your 6 weeks of STD are up, or is it once it's up and you're SOL and will go unpaid?

I am concerned about being put on bed rest and what will happen to my maternity leave and coverage. Thanks! FWIW, I will look at my policy tomorrow, my hand book is at work! TIA

Re: Bed Rest Momma's, I have a Q!

  • I was told by HR that I would have 6 weeks STD before the babies were born when I was on bed rest and 6 weeks after.  But I would guess each company's policy is different,  Good luck!

  • My STD is for 6 months coverage, then long term would kick in so as far as my company is concerned my entire bed rest is covered, then 8 wks (c/section for me) after my baby is here. Some STD policy's only pay a %age of your salary. I am extremely fortunate that mine covers at 100%.
  • I get 12 wks of STD at 50% pay, but i have to be off for 30days before it kicks in (so i'm just using sick/vac time).  after that for my regular maternity leave i will just use up my sick/vac time then probably go unpaid for a little while, but for maternity i get 12wks from FMLA and then can get up to 6mo from my job (but those leaves are unpaid unless i have time to use up).
