DS is almost 15 months. We've been giving him about 24 oz of milk a day b/c that's what the doc told us to give him at his 12 month appt. But does he still need that much? Just wondering. We go back in a couple of weeks so I can ask then.
My son drinks 3 bottles a day... just 18 oz a day (sometimes a little less if he doesn't finish the bottle), ?At his 12 month appt, the doctor said that he needed 16 minimum and that what he was drinking was just fine. ? He just doesn't seem to want to drink anymore. ?I was concerned, but the pedi said he was super healthy and I had nothing to worry about.
I'm nervous about this. My pedi didn't say anything about a limit, and I never realized there was such a thing as too much milk (within reason.) So DS probably has about 32 oz a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. But he has it with each meal and sometimes an extra cup here and there. Does everyone else do water with meals?
Right now we do water with meals and he always has a sippy cup with water in it around while he's playing. We do 3, 8oz bottles a day-one before each nap and at bedtime.
My pedi says 12-18 oz a day and not to go over 18 oz. She says that cows milk absorbs iron and can cause anemia. She said that she see is all of the time because of the old school perception that babies and toddlers *need* a lot of milk.
Pedi told us to stay under 24 oz/day. DS gets 6oz of milk in a sippy with Breakfast, before his nap and dinner. He drinks 2 oz of juice with 4 oz water with lunch.
DD gets 16-20oz a day. One bottle mid morning and one before bed. Water and/or 1/2water 1/2 juice with meals and in between. She would rather not take her milk in a cup. I dont feel like fighting about it, so she still takes her milk in a bottle. I pick my battles. LOL.
