no drop down side cribs??

I read the post below and am wondering why some prefer cribs w/o the drop down sides.

I have two drop down sides for my foster children. I cannot imagine having cribs that don't have a side that comes down. I couldn't bend over the crib after a surgery and would have a really hard time lifting a 30+lb toddler out of a crib when I'm hugely pg with twins.

I'm just curious!

    I'm 5'1" and I didn't have a drop down side. By the time my baby was at the low and lowest level he was sitting and standing up so I didn't have to reach all the way to the bottom to get him up. I also never put him in his crib completely asleep. He's a great sleeper and I never thought to use a drop side crib. I also like the sturdiness of the lower non drop down side cribs.

    I know there have been some recalls recently on drop side cribs. Maybe that's it? I honestly don't know. Our crib is convertible, not drop side, but it's just that we happened to like the crib.

    We are not doing the drop side due to recalls... I don't know the specifics.... I just know they are not as highly looked upon as they were in the past.

    I don't have an opinion either way really but I know that drop sides are usually the ones that get recalled. The crib we liked best wasn't a dropside so we got one that wasn't.

    i posted something about crib advice, asking for no drop side....reason being it is less sturdy. i want something nice and solid for my baby, but to each their own :):)

    Drop side cribs are widely considered to be more dangerous than those without the drop side.  So much so that there is a possibility of banning them.  Several retailers (including BRU) have said that they will no longer order drop side cribs because of the danger and are phasing them out.  Here are a couple of articles about it.

    I feel like cribs without the drop side are sturdier. And DH and I are both pretty tall and wouldn't really use the drop side anyways. Now if we were shorter and weren't able to easily reach into a crib without lowering the side I might go with it for convience.

    It is because lately there have been many recalls recently because of the dropside coming unlatched and babies falling down and being caught between the side and the mattress (suffocating). Several manufacturers are no longer making them and many retailers are not going to be carrying them anymore.

    I have a drop side that I used without any problems for DS1 and I pushed and pulled and tugged on the side to see if there was any chance of it breaking. I am confident that it is fine and I will be using it again for this LO.
