Transporting the giant cupcake

So DS' party is 35 minutes from where I live. I'll be making the giant cupcake at our apt and then will have to transport it. Any ideas???

Re: Transporting the giant cupcake

  • Very, very carefully.

Could you put in on a big board and put it in the back of your car?  Do you have an SUV?  The back end would work in that case.  Maybe on your lap or the floor of the front passenger seat if you are the driver.

  • My sister makes cakes for peoples weddings, showers, etc.  She always puts each layer in a separate box and then transports them on the floorboard of the back seat.  They tend to move around less down there.  Also, she brings extra icing with her so that she can fix any bumps that happen on the way.  She dips a spatula in hot water then uses it to smooth over the mistake and then adds a little more icing.  It usually works really well.

  • I have an SUV so I can use the back. Another reason that living in an apt sucks. Wish I didn't have to transport this thing.
  • I have found the best way to transport cakes is to cut some of that rubber shelf liner stuff or rug mats and put it under the cake (I have a larg cake carrier that I use).  It will keep your cake from sliding around.

This is what I would do.  Transporting in separate layers is really important.

Careful - it might slide around in the back if you don't anchor it somehow.

I would do this. I've had some bad experiences transporting a birthday cake or two to my in laws....lesson learned. : )
