Though DS's 24 hour whooping cough test came back negative AND he's been vaccinated for it 3 times already (regular vaccination schedule), we found out today that his 5 day test came back positive. He's on antibiotics and so are DH and I, my parents and his DC kids (he goes to a small in home), and DH and I, and my parents (since they see him a lot), have to get the?tetanus?with whooping cough vaccine next week. He's out of daycare all next week too.
This just goes to show to trust your instincts. I wasn't happy with their answer to keep with the saline drops & humidifier when it wasn't helping and he was absolutely miserable. He's not sleeping and coughs so hard he gags and gasps like he's choking. I researched online and heard videos of whooping cough, and though he doesn't have the whooping part, the gasping sounded a lot like it. We took him in last weekend and I asked the doctor to run the test. If I wouldn't have been so persistent, they would still be thinking he had a minor cold or allergies. ?
I can't tell you the last time DS has slept in his crib. Since he's been sick, I've been letting him sleep with DH & I again.
Keep DS in your thoughts that he feels better soon.?
Re: DS has whooping cough!
Aww...poor little guy! I hope he gets better soon!
Hopefully no one else will get it. I got the DTaP vaccine right in the hospital the day after I had DS. I work in a school and I didn't want to take any chances that I would get it and bring it home to DS.
Also, thank God you insisted on them running the test! I don't even want to think about what would have happened had you not insisted they run the tests!
I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope he's feeling better soon.
Mommy intuition is a powerful thing.
