In the previous post there were some people who seem saddened by his death and others who can joke about it... So I am not trying to start trouble or being snarky, but is there something special that Billy Mays did that makes him great? Maybe I am missing something, but he was using cocaine...
Re: Billy Mays...why so special?
It's not the he was "special", it's about respecting the dead. Regardless of what choices he made in his life, don't you think he deserves the same respect you or I would expect for our loved ones. It's just tasteless to make a joke about how he died, IMO. I read the post below that you're referring to, expecting to see someone exclaiming his greatness, but all I saw was someone remarking on the tastelessness of a certain joke.
i've often wondered this about michael jackson....
Not to open up THIS debate again, but.....at least MJ created something - it was possible to feel close to him because of his music, and to have his music mean something in your life (not to mention that he was a trailblazer for blacks in the music industry).
Do people feel a close emotional connection to Oxiclean? Like, after Mays's death, some people would get choked up while doing their laundry?
I completely agree with this. I'm still waiting to see who was showing an emotional connection to Billy Mays. The OP here made it sound like people were crying and emotional over his death.. I didn't see that.
I do have to say this... yesterday DH soaked a few of my shirts in OxyClean because they had grease stains that wouldn't come out. They finally came out with the Oxyclean... that product changed my life. LOL
I don't know about the post today....but I remember that after that spate of celebrity deaths, there were a number of polls asking which one affected you the most...and Billy Mays had an inexplicably large number of posts. It was bizarro.
And after DD, Oxiclean Baby changed our lives for sure.
But I imagine the product would have worked the same even if a cartoon bear was hawking it, lol.
Ahhh.. I never saw the poll. I wonder how many of those were sincere/serious votes. To me, it's always sad when anyone dies, celebrity or not. I get choked up when I read news stories about anyone dying. It's a sad thing. I agree that some people take it a little too personal and/or get a little too emotional about it.
