Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If you have taken LO to the zoo, come in

Did they enjoy it?  We are going on a mini vacation next week to St. Louis.  We didn't want to go anywhere big or really far away this year because he isn't crazy about being in the car.  We are planning on going to the zoo and I really hope he likes it.  He really loves animals!

  • I took DS to a small, local zoo w/ a friend and her DD. He seemed to like it. He also loves looking at animals. The only thing is that with him being in the stoller, sometimes he couldn't see everything. I didn't want to take him out though b/c then he would have never went back in!

  • We took Brooke to the Brookfield zoo in Chicago the beginning of June. She LOVED looking at all of the animals and had a great time. When she needed a nap we just put her in the bjorn on DH and she slept against his chest. The rest of the time was spent in the stroller.
  • DS is 9 months old and has been going to the zoo since he was a few weeks old becasue well DD wants to go ALL the time. LOL.  He seems to enjoy it and likes to watch the animals. I find he can see much more when I wear him in a sling... in case your wondering if you should take a sling or use a stroller for the trip.

    Have fun!

  • Not really. He loves observing but it was hotter than the meteorologist predicted which = crabby and tired DS.
  • He really didn't notice the animals like gorillas, elephants...anything that had a distance between them. ?Fish he liked! haha
  • Yes! DS loved it!!! He did fall asleep at like the last 20 mins. BUT he loved it!!! We even feed Giraffes!! It was a lot of fun!
  • DS spent all of his time looking at the other people!  He barely noticed the animals...

  • Jude freaks out when there's a lot of noise, so we had to avoid closed-in spaces at the zoo, as well as the train. Despite his interest in our cats, he didn't seem too enthused by anything at the zoo, except for this moment with an alligator:

  • He did! I was afraid he would be too young, but he really got into it. It was a medium sized zoo so it was an overcast day so not too crowded. He got so excited to see the giraffes, I think he thought they were big Sophies. :)

  • I have taken DS to the zoo three times so far.  I live in Omaha and we have a pretty good zoo.  He loves the aquarium and the jungle house.  I used to live in St. Louis and I think they have one of the best!  Also, you can't beat FREE!!!!

  • St. Louis Zoo!  Man, I loved that place (I grew up in MO and went to WashU for college).  Go.  Its free, so if your LO (or you) isn't enjoying it, not a huge loss.   The museums are also free, so if its too hot out, there's a pretty good art museum (and other museums) near the zoo.
  • We just went to the Philadelphia Zoo today!  It was fun, but under no circumstances do I think that Will understood what he was seeing.
