Random Poll: Breastfeeding baby doll for kids - Yay or Nay?

I am bored and was oddly fascinated by this story on the news about a new doll that mimicks breastfeeding, needs to be burped after, etc.  Would you buy this for your child?

  • I don't think I would buy it for my daughter but it doesn't bother me. Most babies come with a bottle which could give the idea that it is normal to bottle feed and not normal to breast feed. So it's not a terrible idea that there is now a baby doll out that breastfeeds.

This.  I thought it was funny what a big deal it is.

  • Hmmm, I'm not sure--I think I'll have to go with nay.  But, I do think it's a great teaching tool or way to show older siblings how their new baby sibling will eat, etc.
  • I personally wouldn't buy it for my kid, but I could understand why a parent who may actually be breastfeeding might buy it for an older child they may have to help them understand what is happening when Mommy feeds the baby.  For me though, it just seems a little too "adult" for a child.  Oh well.... to each his own!

  • I don't really have a problem with it...especially if it helps promote the idea of breast feeding for the next generation.  It does however come complete with a little brap top with some stuffing and little raised flowers where the nipples should be that you put the doll up to.

I'm not sure.....I can't quite picture this and I just hope we're not sexualizing little girls in an attempt to promote educational awareness of a healthy function.

  • Good points about the teaching aspect and the fact that all we see are bottlefeeding baby dolls even though breastfeeding is totally normal and natural.

I agree with this.  I must say, though, that when I saw this on The View the other day and they showed the little girl with the doll up to her chest making sucking noises, I was pretty creeped out.  I think it is because I associated with that little girl having breast WAY before she is supposed to.

  • I'm a major lactivist, but it creeps me out a little. Not b/c of the the girl pretending to BF.  That seems normal.  I just don't see why the kids couldn't just pull up their shirt and, you know, pretend?
