Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Ferber Night 1-Recap

she went down at 8, cried on and off until about 8:30...went to sleep until about 11.  from 11 to 3 she was up 6 or 7 times (i lost count).  the first time we went in there she went back to sleep.  finally, from around 3 until 7 she slept.

it wasn't a huge success, but i wasn't really expecting one.  it was her first night in the crib AND the first night unswaddled (she is keeping her pacifier, she only falls asleep with it) AND her first night without falling asleep in the swing.

right now i'm trying her first nap in the packnplay.  she has her seahorse (huge hit, btw), and a pacifier and only cried for about 2 minutes.  let's see how long she sleeps for...

Re: Ferber Night 1-Recap

  • Yeah, first night is always the worst.  Hope it gets better for her tonight.  Like you said, she's losing 2 of her normal routine, so she's mourning that.    Maybe put something that you've been wearing or your used pillow case in her crib so she can still smell you?

  • Hopefully her wake-ups will drop off pretty well tonight.  But it is a huge success her spending the whole night in her crib and unswaddled.  Awesome! :)
  • Congratulations!  Sounds like a rough first night, but you guys made it though!  I'll bet tonight will be better and by Monday you'll be in a good pattern.

  • keep it up!  from experience, it only gets easier.  we just went through this about a month ago and DD went from getting up 4-5 times a night to sleeping through the night.  we still have our off nights but life is much better in our house.  GL!

  • That sounds promising! Keep it up.

We tried to unswaddle and take the paci at the same time. Big mistake. We gave her the paci back and are going to work on that next.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

i just wish she could learn to put it back in her mouth.  she's getting it, slowly.  the problem is she will pull it out, look at it REALLY intensely, put it back in her mouth and won't let go. so, she ends up pulling it out again.

it would be really funny to watch if it wasn't 3am:)

  • Congrats! It will get easier! Follow the book and you should see success soon. It took us awhile to get all of the night wakings out of the way but LO will now go from 7p.m. to 5 a.m. w/o waking up, which to me is awesome. Good Luck!

Just keep working on the paci; DD can finally do it herself and we only leave one in with her.  For awhile, she would get it in but backwards - she was fine w/ that too.
