Babies: 9 - 12 Months

dropping night time bottle

Whenif did you drop you night time bottle. DS has been waking up every couple hours the last few nights. I cannot keep him up past 7pm (he falls asleep with the bottle) but has been waking again with gas pains(they went away for several weeks)

I have thought about what I am giving him and the only thing could be the yoyo baby yogart...

He did not wake the other night when he didn't drink a night time bottle bc he fell asleep....

TIA

Re: dropping night time bottle

  • DD dropped the middle of the night bottles at 3 months on her own, and she now STTN 90% of the time.  I would try feeding him more during the day and more at night before bed.  DD takes 8 oz before bed with cereal and she eats a lot during the day so she doesn't need to eat at night.  At 8 months a baby should be able to eat enough during the day that they don't need middle of the night feedings.  Also if he is waking with gas pains give him gas drops before he goes to bed.

  • I think I might need to clarify...he doesn't have a bottle in the middle of the night ....at 7 pm he has a bottle ....he slept better without the 7 pm bottle but he didn't have that much formula then...he has been cutting back on the formula lately and I dont want to cut it back anymore...We have him on Soy and then I guess 6 weeks ago dropped the gripe water...it is this week with the gas or something is waking him up...teething maybe.
  • I dont know, but im wondering the same thing. DD STTN and we give her a 7 ounce bed time bottle. It really helps although I think she could fall asleep w.o it. I just wonder how it will effect her sleeping thru the night. I dont want to start waking up again to feed her!

  • It could be teething, it could be seperation anxiety or it could be gas.  You may have to go through process of elimination for a while.  When he wakes up I would let him cry for about 10 minutes to see if he can self soothe, if he doesn't I would go in and check on him.  I would first make sure he didn't need a diaper change.  I would then rub his belly or his back and try to comfort him back to sleep (this is what our pedi said to do for seperation anxiety because we are having a little bit of trouble with it and it has worked.)  If this doesn't work and he is still fussing like he is in pain I would try gas drops and tylenol or motrin for teething pain.  I don't really have any more advice to offer, we haven't really had many sleep issues since she turned 3 months and started STTN (knock on wood, hope I don't jinx myself.)
