What is a typical day like for you?

Well there are 3 types of days for us.  The M,W,F days, T, TH days, and the weekends.

The M,W, F days I take Sara to her ABA therapy at a special preschool at 8:30am and pick her up at 1:30pm.  I have that time open to do all my errands and what not.  I pick her up, come home, we hang out for 1/2 hour and then she naps.  DH usually will get home around 4:30 and Sara gets up from her nap between 4:30 and 5pm.  We have dinner then play in the backyard or house or do learning skills on the computer.  She goes to bed around 9pm.

T,TH days she goes to speech therapy at 8:30 and I pick her up at 10:30 then we either come home or run around doing stuff.  Then I take her to her social group from 12:30-2:30.  Then back home for nap and the evening routines.

Weekends are very laid back and relaxed.  I try and let Sara get a breather on these days.  We still have some structure for her but just not as ridged.

Is there any one activity that Sara really enjoys?

Right now she loves riding her bike or motorcycle as she calls it and riding in the Jeep.

Did you always know you were one and done? Do you ever get baby fever?

Yep, I never wanted kids growing up and only knew I would want to have one because of my DH.  Once I was PG I knew I was one and done because I could never see more that one child in my future.  I was an only child so I know what that was like growing up.

I get little hot flashes now and then but I've never had the fever.  LOL!  I just know I couldn't handle two and that wouldn't be fair to anyone to even try for another.  DH always wanted 2 but would listen to the reasons why I just wanted 1 when I was PG.  Right after Sara was born (like 10 mins after) he was holding her and said, "I only want to have her."  He too has had the hot flashes but never the fever.  So we are happy with just Sara.

I remember once you said that a friend brought up to you that Sara might need to be evaluated.  Did that affect your friendship, were you upset that she mentioned anything? Would you have been more upset had she not said anything?

I would be happy with either.  Since I've had my Bypass surgery food just doesn't hold the same appeal it used to with me.  If I had to choose I would go with Italian because I like to eat my left over Italian food the next day.

The only way it affected our friendship was to make it stronger.  This friend has been my friend since 1st grade so almost 30 years.  I knew if she thought there was a problem then I should look into it because of the nature of our friendship I knew she would never say it if she didn't think I could handle it or help me.  Her son has Autism so I knew she wouldn't bring up the subject if she didn't think she was helping me.

I don't think I would have been upset because I remember what she went through when the subject was brought up to her.  She went through a lot of denial and I would think she would just want to spare me from going through that.  Sara's Dr had some thoughts that Sara did have something so it was just the push from my friend that made us do everything a little sooner than we would have.

  • I'm a huge wuss.  And since becoming a Mama, I'm like close to bubble wrapping everything just to keep safe.  It's crazy - I know...

But my question, since becoming a Mama yourself, are you more timid, esp when on a dirtbike?

When Sara was still a baby I was but now I'm not.  When she was little I worried about what would happen if I got hurt so I didn't ride much but now that she is more independent I notice I'm more willing to take greater risks.

Right now for the long haul.  My DH's family lives here and he works in Santa Clara county and I work in Union City so this is a good location for us.  I used to live in Moss Beach (between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica) and moved here about 6 years ago.  If we did move I'm not sure where we would move to.
