3rd Trimester

How hard is it to work and be 30 weeks preg?

I start work in two weeks (I'm a teacher) and have a feeling I will be miserable.

I don't want to go back to work ...call the waaaaambulance.

Re: How hard is it to work and be 30 weeks preg?

  • I'm working and I'll be 38 weeks on Monday. It's hard sometimes, you're tired a lot but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world :).

  • Work was not bad for me until about last week 35/36 weeks.  Now I am exhausted everyday and want to be done working but am trying to save my time so when LO arrives I have more time at home then.

  • Depends on the person and the pregnancy.  I was doing great at work until 31 weeks when my hip pain started.  Had it not been for that, I'd still be sailing through.  And I have to do a LOT of walking at my job.

Apart from some nasea that started I was feeling totally fine and sleeping well at 30wks.  The real fun started around 35-36wks for me.  I've been completely miserable at work since then with no end in sight.
  • It is a lot easier than working at 39 weeks

agree with this poster.  i worked until 36 weeks.  Some days I felt fine, some days i was pretty tired- but overall it was fine.  i used to teach and i was on my feet all day but i'd try to sit as much as possible.

  • work hasn't been hard for me until the past week or so, and that's only because my feet are swelling like crazy and my patience has taken a nose dive.

  • Working was mildly miserable at 30 weeks, but at 38 it takes every ounce of will power I possess to get up and go to work every day.

Yep. Work was actually pretty easy for me until about 37 weeks. Now I've gone from "he can stay in as long as he wants" to "please can I go into labor so that I can get out of work".

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • i am ok at 31 weeks.  some days its hot and miserable in my office but i just grin and bear it.  need to make some money!  there are alot of days where i am exhausted by the time i get in my car to go home.
  • Its hard. I sit all day too. My feet really hurt and I am so tired I just drag allday. The hardest part tho is all the comments. You will be asked when you are due 8-476,985,708,706,878 times a day. I wanna go home now.
  • I was ok at 30 weeks, but two months later it's definitely starting to take its toll.  The hot commute--including walking in the heat and taking the crowded subway--isn't helping things.  I am considering starting my leave early at 39 weeks (it's not looking like baby will come early despite my hopes).
  • Depends on the person and the job, but for me it has been touch and go.  I was struggling last week, but this week I feel ok. Some days I wish I could sleep all day, others I am grateful for the distraction of the office.  I think the idea of staying home always sounds great, but then time probably passes very slowly as well.

I'm going to work as long as possible, I just don't want to waste those precious vacation/sick days!

  • I go back to work as a teacher too at 31 weeks but plan on teaching 7-8 weeks if I can. When I was pg w/ my twins I worked up as long as I could nad didn't have the summer break to rest (my twins were born in June). I am thinking that after having the summer off it will be a shock going back but I know that I can do it! Just be sure to sit down a lot more than usual and see if there's anyone available to transport your classes to lunch, PE, etc....
  • I have severe hip pain, so some days it is fine and somedays it is horrible... I know people say it gets worse but I am not sure how I am going to get through when the bad days get worse... one day at a time... I think it is hard because I work, eat, and sleep... there is not much time for anything else during the week and that is frustrating.

  • Can you sit while you teach? I have a desk job and presently at 31 weeks I have no complaints. I imagine being on my feet all day would be a MUCH different story.

  • I'm still working and planning to work through 40 weeks. After that, my sister is getting married, so I'm taking my maternity leave starting Sept. 1st regardless if LO is here or not, b/c I won't have time to deal with work, the baby and my sister's wedding. :)
  • My position is Special Ed Resource so I am sitting alot working with groups of children.  The only real standing is when I am in the other classrooms for inclusion.
  • I really can't complain yet, I have some days that are harder than others (especially when I have a lot of back/hip pain or didn't sleep at all the night before).  But for the most part I feel fine.  I do have a desk job, which I'm sure is much easier than a job when I'd be standing all day.

The fall is my absolute busiest time, so I'm definitely expecting that it's only going to get worse!

  • i actually am usually happy to work -- takes my mind off being stressed about baby's health!  at 30 weeks, i felt great, and i am on my feet all day.  i actually had more trouble with a computer training recently where i was sitting down for 8 hours +.  that made my back feel like crap, so i can only imagine you poor ladies who are seated all day -- at least i can move around and don't get stiff or sore.  now, at 35 weeks, i'm still feeling pretty good.  i have to take a few more breaks to sit down and make sure i eat on time, but otherwise, i'm still doing okay.  it's not fun, but you do what you have to do!

  • I'm still going strong and I'm almost 37 weeks.
  • Like a lot of the PPs have said, I was fine until this week.  My husband keeps asking me if I'm getting a cold or something, because my attitude just sucks big time!  I'm feeling frustrated and tired.  I think I may see if I can work from home closer to my due date so I don't bite anyone's head off.

This is exactly how I feel. At 30 weeks I  felt pretty good, but now at almost 37 I dread coming to work everyday because I am so tired and uncomfy.
