Success after IF

Why are doctors so stupid about IVF?

I went to a new doctor today, a rheumatologist, and it came up that I'd done IVF. I kid you not, he wrote "IVF 2007" at the top of my chart and circled it.

This guy has no interested in trying to knock me up, or keep me pregnant, or deliver a baby, or anything else even remotely related to IVF. WTF?!

It was annoying enough when the MFMs would act all like "oooooooh that must be the problem" about IVF when I was knocked up and having issues, but this was really annoying.

End rant!

  • So weird.  I love how doctors think that IVF contributes to every illness or symptom on the planet.  I went to the dentist when I was pg, and my dentist was SO interested in the whole IVF process.  It was kind of strange.

  • It's also amazing how so many people in medicine are so uninformed about IVF.  I would be at the dentist or some doctor and mention that I have twins which of course turns into a discussion about IVF.  I can't tell you the number of times someone told me that IVF will make me "more fertile".  Uhm, I have blocked tubes so no it won't.  But they insist.  Or they have some other weird "theory".

OMG does this drive me nuts!!!!  Everyone is so damned convinced that DH and I will easily get knocked up now that we had DS, hello it took 2 IVFs and just to get the one baby.  Somehow I don't think my DOR and DH's MFI are going to be improved by me pushing out a baby!

  • simple. medicine is HUGE! how can each and every docotor know everything that is "medical." that is absurd. my dh operates on hearts. could he monitor my IVF cycles? could he remove my eggs at retrieval? could he transfer the embryos? no.no no. could he diagnose the mole on my back? could he remove a bunion? could he deliver my baby? no. no. maybe.

a specialist is a specialist for a reason.
