Re: Cat Spraying in New Baby's Room??

If anyone has cats or knows anything about their behaviour.... Would it seem logical that a cat might spray the entrance of a new baby's room to mark it's territory, or because it is jealous and that's how it's acting out?

The previous owners of our new house had a cat....and a baby.  Their baby's room is now DD's room, and every once in a while (not all the time), I swear I can smell "cat".  It's not a crazy strong smell, but it could be faded cat pee, I'm not sure.  Anyhow, I got a black light and shone it around the carpet in the room, and the only spot on the entire carpet is right by the door and it looks like a stream of liquid in a circular pattern.  We have already steam cleaned all the carpets, so now I`m trying a more targeted approach.

I know this is a random question and I will also post this on the pets board.  I just have no idea as I'm not a cat person.  I tried googling this, but all I got was how to get kitty adjusted to baby, or minimizing jealousy etc. TIA

  • steam cleaning spreads the urine smell around. there is a product called urine-off that is awesome, go to www.urineoff.com and look to see who sells it around your area.

Cats don't like change very much and their way of showing is by marking their territory. Is your cat neutered? That could be a problem, too.

  • We use BacOut for pet odors.
  • I have three cats, and the only thing that truly gets rid of the smell, is Dumb Cat, sold online at Petco.com, only stuff that actually gets rid of the smell.  You spray it on let it dry and truly after you can't smell anything at all.  It also should help with the cat's behavior because if he can't smell it he won't usually mark.  GL!  I know how stressful it is.
