When can I add yogurt & cheese to his diet (he's 8.5mos). Do I do it all at once, or mix the yogurt with things? And I haven't given any meats yet, do you suggest the jarred meats or wait til he has teeth and give him "real" meat?
I've started giving him pieces of food (banana, puffs) to pick up & eat and all he wants to do is mush it in his hands. When it does get into his mouth he gags....is he just not ready yet? He has no teeth yet either.
Re: finger foods & yogurt?
Our pedi had told us to start meats at the 6 month appt and we did jar meats. I started with mixes but then realized there isn't much meat in those jars so I went with just meat and would give DD meat and veggies. Now sometimes I do a jar and sometimes I do finger food meats.
I started yogurt when DD was about 7 months or so but we have her on soy formula when we supplement for breastmilk so I was a little nervous about yogurt. She seems to do fine with it and we give it to her for breakfast. I think daycare mixes it with her oatmeal and I mix some in with oatmeal and give some to her just by itself. Cheese we really haven't started yet, DD has had a few pieces here and there but I did just buy regular string cheese for her to try.
We started yogurt at 6 months and just started cheese at 8 months.
Jarred meats gross me out so we are doing shredded chicken/fish but that is a personal choice.
It takes time for them to get it, just keep offering it and he will get it.
