I need a new gate, and I definately want it mounted with hardware. Any recommendations for a pretty sturdy/resonably priced gate?

Do not buy the Summer Infant Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate. It's fine as a regular gate in a doorway, but DS can open the walk-thru part so it would be really unsafe at the top of the stairs.
