unisex names

There are a couple names I REALLY like, but I don't think they're very popular. They could go boy or girl and I'm afraid I may go the opposite way that is popular. I don't want to regret the decision when the baby is older. So, what is your first impression of these names?

Amari: boy or girl?

Kemper: boy or girl:?

If we choose these we'll give either a really masculine middle name or girly middle name.

Amari: I know it was a male name in the original Hebrew, but I think it can be used for both now.

Kemper: Boy, although it will always say fish to me because this is what my cousin named his pet cat fish:)

Both are so uncommon that I don't think most people will have a gender reference-point to use. So either, I think can be understandably both. Kemper sounds a smidge more male and Amari a smidge more female, but you'll have some wiggle room either way.

Good idea using a gender specific middle name to set it off. There's a ton of decent unisex names out there, but I always have to scratch my head when I see little Taylor Kennedy's and Jamie Robin's.

Amari- sounds more fem to me even though it's orig. for a male

Kemper- sounds more masc. but just slightly

on first glance, i would say amari is a girl and kemper a boy. i think amari could go either way, but i'd stick with kemper as a boy's name.

These are just IDEAS, but thanks for the input! IF we use them it'd be Kemper for boy and Amari for a girl!

I think both names are better suited for boys. + I'm sick of traditional boy names going to the girls because they end with "ee" sound.

Amari: sounds feminine

Kemper: sounds masculine and is the name of the guy that owns the biggest shopping center in Western Washington. He's a real ass.

This. Amari makes me think of the more common boy name Ari (I've known a few from working at a Jewish summer camp a few years and also from the show Entourage which is so popular), so that makes me think boy for sure.
