2nd Trimester

Horrible headaches!

I constantly have a headache. Some days (2 or 3 days per week) I'll wake up with a headache and go to bed with one. It gets worse throughout the day, then a bit better when I get home after work. The headache is horrible pain, terrible!  I take as much Tylenol as I can.

I have a lot of stress in my life (law school, new jobs, moving, financial difficulties, etc.). But, this is all normal, the only new thing is the pregnancy.

Anyone else have terrible headaches often? Should I ask my doc about it?

Re: Horrible headaches!

  • YES...def talk to your doctor.  I have been having severe headaches since I was 12 weeks. the tylenol eventually stopped working.  The doctor said to take excedrin migrane and now that is not working anymore. So I have to call him tomorrow bc Mondays he isn't in the office(he is on call) to see what the next step is. My doctor was pretty concerned bc I have them everyday all the time.

  • oh boy, that sucks!  I get them here and there.  I try to keep hydrated and second try a can of coke.  (ice packs, a dark room, and a nap help too).  Definetly tell your MD, could also be blood pressure related.  GL!
  • I have also been having horrible headaches, waking up with them and going to bed with them.  I found excedrin tension works well sometimes (it has caffeine in it).  I did talk to my doctor and she was able to prescribe me something stronger that really works well.  I believe its called Fiorcet (sp??), I get the generic and it is great.  it does have a bit of a sedative in it but it doesn't make me tired.  Good luck and hopefully they can prescribe you something.

  • I have bad ones as well (started at about 13 wks). I had the same thing when pg w/ DD. They're so annoying. I try to avoid taking Tylenol, but I end up trying it anyway. Too bad it doesn't even really help! I agree that you should talk to your dr. if they're bad. Hope it's better soon!

I hope the doctor can find a solution for you. hang in there.

  • I get one about 3-5 days/week.  I used to just suffer until my dr suggested that I try Sudafed with the Tylenol to see if it helps.  It does!!!  A lot!  When it;s really bad, I take the meds with caffeine, that helps too.  Just a thought to give Sudafed a try, I didn't realize that I have been "stuffy", but not in my nose.  Many pg women have these symptoms, worth a try.

    Hope you feel better!

  • My Dr. gave me tylenol with codine for the really bad headaches. I have had migraines for years and my regular meds are a no-no now that I am pg. Check with your Dr. but you can also try to hydrate, meditate, drink a little caffine, and use cold packs on your forehead and the back of your neck. Good Luck!
  • Yes, I get them too!!  When I get them, they last for two to three days.   I have only tried Tylenol, but that doesn't help.   I told Dr. about it, and they just said it was related to all the hormones, and didn't give me anything.  She told me to have a coke or a cup of coffee!  That really doesn't help either.  I hope they get better for you!!
  • I had HORRIBLE migraines early on and now they are coming back..

post what your Dr. says. ?I'm curious if they can do anything.

I have a yeast infection too, so I'm going to call mine tomorrow anyways.. ugh.

I went to L&D because I couldn't feel LO all day last week and called about the bug bite on my boob. ?I've called the OB more in the last 10 days then my whole pregnancy so far.. LOL?

  • Headaches are a common side effect in the second trimester.  I would def. talk to your doctor about it eventhough it was a problem prior to pregnancy.

I hope the doc can help you, headaches are no fun!  I hope you feel better soon!
