I give J5 a sippy cup of water at all his solid meals but he never drinks out of it. He totally gets how to hold it and every once in awhile he puts the spout in his mouth, but he never does any actual drinking. He waves it around and just acts like it's a toy. If we try to put it in his mouth and show him how it works he pushes it away and whines. We have the playtex kind and the nuby kind. We introduced it at about 5 months. What do you think? Shouldn't he be getting it by now? Or is it not really a big deal?
Re: I might be concerned about DS's sippy cup skills
give him more time
E was not interested in the sippy AT ALL until around 10.5mo. i was SURE i would be packing bottles in his lunchbox for kindergarten!! and then all of a sudden one day - he started drinking his water. now he is down to only a nighttime bottle and he doesn't blink an eye
keep offering at meal times. let him play with it. he'll get it - i promise!

Not a big deal. DS wasn't even close to drinking from a sippy cup at that age. I don't think he really got the hang of it until close to 11 months. At that age I just gave one to DS to play with and get used to. I would try to get him to drink from it and demonstrate it, but he just didn't get it either. Just keep giving it to him and showing him how to use it. It will click in the next month or so.
