Inj and IUI ?

Hi ladies. I tried to google this, but keep getting your healthcare provider will discuss the chances". I'm wondering what you've been told about percentages of twins or hom from injects and IUI from your RE? It's one of my questions for my RE on Wed but I was curious what others have been told. TIA!

Re: Inj and IUI ?

  • That is largely dependent upon the number of mature follicles you have at trigger.

  • The sheet I got from my RE stated the following:

Clomid + IUI 5-8% of mulitples

Gonadotropins + IUI 20-28% of multiples

  • I have low antral follie count, so basically I just don't make a lot of follies even with fertility drugs, so I was told my chances of HOMs are pretty low, but there is an increased chance of twins, but he did not give ma any numbers.

  • It all depends on the number of follicles you are at the time of trigger.  But, HOM are much more common with IUI than IVF b/c you cannot control fertilization.

My RE had DH & I sign a form stating that we were not OK with selective reduction and that we would cancel any cycle where we produced more than 4 follicles.  Obviously, since I suck and producing eggs, this was never an issue.

It is def. something to discuss with your RE.

Thanks everyone! I know it varies by person and count. Just wanted a ballpark number like I got when I started clomid.

  • my RE told me 30% for twins <5% for triplets and <1% for greater with injects/iui

     but remember that's a 30% after the 25% chance of conception. . .

The rates go down b/c they won't let you trigger if you have too many mature follies.

but as previous posts have said, it really depends cycle to cycle

  • SAIFer chiming in.

I was told that there would be an increased chance of "twins or more," and that I would be informed as my follicles grew.  When I had three mature follicles at trigger, the ARNP gave me a firm 10% chance.  It's all about the close and careful monitoring of your cycle.

Good luck in getting your questions answered.

This is pretty much what I was told as well. Noting that Clomid + iui gets you to about a 10% chance of pg, and Gonads + IUI will bring you up to 20%. So the precentage of multiples above is out of the 10 or 20%.

My RE said she cancels a cycle at more than 4 mature follies, and my insurance will cover a transfer with more than 5 follies.
