Infertility

****MFI Weekly Check-In****

MFI Weekly Check In

This group is for those of us dealing with male factor issues.   We
welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility,
morphology or all three.  Male infertility is a mysterious world
filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists,
acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to.  Any
treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for
a fresh batch of swimmers.  Most of us are told the only answer is IUI
or IVF w/ICSI.  The purpose of this group is to support each other
through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the
more informed we are the better.   We have a check in every Monday
morning but I will try to post a link later in the afternoon/evening
also.  Welcome and baby dust to all!

Hey! I am happy to say that we are doing our 1st IUI this month!! I am super excited and super nervous at the same time!

My favorite thing about summer would be the mornings....I just walked outside to get the flyers off the mailbox and the air was crisp and cool and the sun was just starting to come up. I love it!

  • Hello :)  I'd like to "join."  We have MFI and have low numbers on everything.  We're moving forward with (possibly mini) IVF with ICSI next month.

I just love summer, period.  I love the heat, the sun, and the long days.  I wish we could move sometimes to a warmer state!

  • Will you add me to the list?  We are dealing with low morphology.

We are doing our first IUI this cycle.

I don't know if I can pick one thing about summer.  I love it all!  Living in Chicago, I am cold most of the year.  I love walking outside in the summer and being warm.

  • Hello everyone!

I'm new here and saw your thread - hope you don't mind if I join in.  My husband and I have been TTC since January 2008 (we're both 26 years old).  We found out last January that my husband had 0% morphology (all other numbers were great) when he did an SA at a male factor infertility urologist's office (thank goodness this doctor is a specialist in that area).  They found out that he had a varicocele, so they removed it in March 2009.  We just found out the first post-op SA results last Wednesday and although my husband's morphology did not improve much, it went up to 1%.  The doctor told us that he is "encouraged" and that he thinks we will conceive naturally.  He said that the morph. is the last parameter to catch up, so he expects it to continue to improve.

This is contradictory to much of the information that I have found elsewhere.  The doctor is so confident and when I asked him about his conservative approach, he said that he will readily refer couple to IVF (does so everyday) if he feels it is necessary as he does not want to waste their time and effort.  He said that he thinks we will be pregnant within six months.  This was refreshing to hear.  My husband goes back for another SA in October and we will find out the results in the middle of November.

Does anyone else have experience with any of this?  It's so hard to find people that have actually gone through it, as well, and understand what I'm talking about.  Who would have thought that getting pregnant would be this much of a struggle.

  • Hi Ladies,

Welcome newcomers and congratulations to the new BFPs..  Nothing new with me.  We are still in therapy and no mutually agreed on time to start IVF yet.  Honestly, as helpful as therapy has been for us I am also getting impatient playing the waiting game while everyone around me is either pregnant or a new parent.  Meanwhile, I am focused n finishing the semester and then our romantic Irish weekend getaway.

Summertime is the best time in Chicago with all the festivals, outdoor activities and the beach.  Unfortunately, this has not been a great summer to enjoy them due to both weather and having too much schoolwork.  My favorite activity is to go to the farmer's market and prepare a wonderfully simple but delicious meal using only local organically grown ingregients.

  • hi everyone... good luck to all starting new treatments!

i'm10dpiui#3 today....    the clock is ticking very.... slowly....        especially since this is our last IUI before moving to IVF.    we have a full day of appointments for our IVF registration (hopefully it will all be for nothing!) tomorrow...   injections/meds classes, a psych consult, and a full exam with my RE.   fun times!     i assume by the end of this week i will either 1.  be pregnant or 2. be on BCP cycling for IVF#1.     crazy talk.

QOTD:    eating outside!!!    at restaurants, on our balcony at home...   whether we're grilling or just bringing dinner outdoors.... ah, i just love it.

Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Welcome to the all the new members...although I know this is kind of a crappy club to join. Hope your stay here is short!

I'm 5dpiui and time is dragging very slowly. I think this is my first "real" tww in 9 months where I actually think we have a "chance"! I'm also researching RE's because we're planning to switch if this cycle is negative, and that's quite a project.

QOTD: BBQing!! I love grilled veggies and just think everything tastes better on the grill. I also love opening all the windows in the house on a summer evening.

We are adopting! Currently waiting for our domestic infant adoption match.

  • "welcome" to all the new joinees. Hope your stay is short!

Congrats to all the new BFP's as well!

I'm in the same boat as MoFree right now. Waiting for my DH to come around. He is still on meds and i'm anxiously counting down the weeks to his testing again. 4 more weeks!! Woo Hoo!

And then i'll be counting down the months until May, because DH has decided that's a good time to "start" our procedures that we will have to do (we find out in Sept. if SA results are good enough to do IUI or skip to IVF). ??? don't ask!

But good luck girls in the next week! :)

  • You can add me :-(

    ?

I am dealing with MFI due to a blockage. DH has healthy motile sperm but it is beyond the blockage. He has had 2 TESE so far and we have plenty of sperm on ice. The doctors cannot find a reason for this though. They say it looks like he had a vasectomy. But unfortunately it is not as easy to correct as a vasectomy is. So IVF it is.

    ?

Favorite thing about summer would have to be the cheaper wardrobe (blush) I find that I have a hell of a lot more summer items as opposed to winter. Oh and I like taking walks outside and sitting by the water on the weekends.?

    TTC since 8/07 DX - Severe MFI/azoospermia & MTHFR/ TESEs found sperm - 7/08 & 6/09/ 12/08 - IVF#1 - BFN/ 6/09 - IVF #2 - cancelled due to OHSS risk (had retrieval)/ 7/09 - FET #1 - BFN/ 9/09 - FET #2 - BFN/ 11/09 - IVF #3 with new RE cancelled twice - 10/09 & 11/09/ 1/10 - IVF #3 take 3 - BFN/ 4/10 - IVF #4 - first ever BFP on 5/13/10!!! 108 @ 10dp3dt/ 2nd beta 311!/ sono on 5/28/10 said TWINS!!!! • I forgot to add my favorite thing about summer:  warm weather and the sunshine!  I live in the midwest so the winter months drag on.  Once spring and summer are here, I don't want them to leave!

  • Welcome newbies!  Congrats BFP's and Thanks for taking over the check in Hillaree.

We have been delayed again due to scheduling conflicts between my OBGYN and RE.  So surgery will be in Sept and first iui in October right before our 5 year anniversary.  I currently have cramps so we have officially been TTC for 3 years.  So not in a good mood today.  Sad

  • Looking to be added to the list!!

H has 35% motility and 1% morph (strict kruger method).  We have conceived twice.  Once in 2006 having our DS and once in May 2009.  We lost that little girl to Trisomy 9.

We are trying again.  Scheduled for Bravelle injections with B 2 B IUI next cycle!!

Good Luck to all the ladies!!!

  • I'm also a newbie and would like to be added to the list. Both dh's SA came back with borderline low motility. My GYN never gave us the % of motilitly but now I intend on getting them since we are heading to IUI next cycle.
