Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Misoprostol & a feeling of peace...

I had my first post the other day about the use of Misoprostol. I was 8+ weeks pregnant and I had many sweet and comforting responses.  I decided to move forward with inserting the pills and waiting.  I'm so glad that people recommended taking pain meds because the pain was pretty intense for about 2 hours, but I'm glad I took this route instead of a D & C.  I'm feeling much better this morning and I woke up with a calm sense of peace, it's very comforting.   But I'm wondering if anyone out there has taken Misoprostol and still had to do a D & C?

Thanks again to everyone for their kind words, the ladies on this board are so sweet and comforting.

  • I had a follow-up ultrasound about a week after I took the misoprostol to make sure a D&C was not needed. I think if the heavy bleeding continues (or no bleeding at all), there is a better indication the medicine did not work correctly. You should be able to have a pretty good idea in the next day or so if it worked for you. My heavy bleeding subsided the day after I took it, followed by 1 week of light bleeding and 1 more week of light spotting. Hope all goes smoothly from here.

  • i was given miso before my d&e...it depends on how far along you are. with a d&c or taking pills it never 100% that everything will come out. if you all ready had your follow up then im sure there is nothing to worry about.
  • I was told there was a chance that ti would be needed so about a week later I had to go in for an u/s to check it out.  I think the pp is correct that the earlier you are, the better chance it has of working.  I know have also read about ladies receiving a second dose if the first one didn't do the job completely.  I hope your recovery goes smoothly!
