Magic cure for nightmares?

The last two nights I have woken up from horrendous nightmares (more than one each night). DH watched me during one and he said I jumped like six inches and was making all sorts of noises and moving around.
I am usually gasping for air when I wake up.

Anything you ladies know of to help with this?

If the themes were logical I would be able to look at what was bothering me. We are just coming out of a very stressful situation and I tend to react to those with sleeping problems in the week or two after they happen. Still, I am wondering how much of this is hormones.

  • Yikes! Hopefully it will pass.  Otherwise I'd say watch what you eat before bed as some foods can trigger bad dreams (try googling to find out what foods are better/worse to eat before bed)  Exercise always means a good nights sleep too, and avoiding a lot of liquids before bed.

Yeah - the repeated trips to the bathroom don't seem to be helping matters.

  • I have the same problem some nights.  One was so upsetting that I actually woke up and cried. I also had the same issues with my first pregnancy.  My doctor told me it was normal but she didn't really have a solution besides trying my best to relax before bed - like read or do something you really enjoy - but it wasn't a guarantee.

  • I have been having the most vivid, intense dreams ever since I became pregnant.  I will remember all the details and I can even wake up and fall back asleep and continue the dream.  And it's pretty much every single night.  Sometimes they are just weird and sometimes they are really scary nightmares like you described.  I am thinking it is hormones too, because the people and events in my dreams are BEYOND BIZARRE!

  • I have terrible, terrible nightmares. To the point of night terrors sometimes. So my acupuncturist put in these things called "ear beads" in my ears on certain nerves to help relax my brain. I've had them for three weeks and I haven't had any nightmares. It looks like little band aids but they have these little seed looking things in them. You press on them on that nerve ( it does hurt) but thats how you know it's working.
