2nd Trimester

All Day Morning sickness question

I'm in my first trimester, and I am just wondering how long this awful feeling last for everyone?  I can't eat or drink anything with feeling sick.  I haven't thrown up, but had diarrhea for about a week, until my doctor put me of Zofran.  I still feel terrible all day: headaches, stomach pains, dizziness etc.  I guess I am wondering if there is a possibility this could go away sooner than my second trimester. Thanks!

Re: All Day Morning sickness question

  • You should be okay by the 16 week. But pregnancy differs for everyone so it could be sooner, could be later and I hate to say it but it may not go away at all. I started to feel sick around my 7th week and I didn't start throwing up until a week or two later. Some weeks were better than others.

  • Hang in there, mama. I'm still feeling sick, but a lot of these ladies assure me that theirs has gone away by about 12/13 weeks. It COULD go away sooner (and, for your sake, I hope it does!) but remember everyone is different!

{{{Hugs}}} being sick is the WORST!  I'm so sorry! :o(

  • I had horrible all day sickness, I was put on zofran as well.  I never took it the 4 times a day I was prescribed, but sometimes I'd take it before I eat.  I was around 16 weeks when it started to go away (sorry).

My only advice..don't let yourself get hungry, because once I had gone too long without eating, is when the severe nausea would kick in.

  • As pp said, it varies.  I started feeling better around week 15 or 16, HOWEVER I still throw up occasionally.  Hang in there, it will all be worth it when you see that little face.
  • I was lucky and my ick stopped at 9 weeks.  It could go to week 40 or you could feel better tomorrow.  Just try to stay hydrated.  You might want to see if a Brat diet will help-bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.

Also cut any fatty greasy foods out.  They always made me feel like crap.  Spicy foods would also make things worse for me even though they tasted amazing.

  • Possible. Everyone's different. Mine went away wk16 day 3. I just woke up and it was gone. It has been back again a bit this week. Ugh.

Different things work for everyone as well but one thing that worked for me is not putting anything cold in my stomach. This is a common tactic in Chinese medicine. I had to start doing this again this week and it has helped with digestion.

  • I was sick all day and all night till in between 20-21 week.  It sucked sooo bad,  I tried Zofran, PLO gel, and nothing worked.  Then finally I had be put on a compounded B6 pill.  It worked as long as I keeped taking it.  Good Luck though!  I hope yours quits much sooner!

  • It's different for everybody.  I had to be on Phenergan for m/s or I was totally non-functional because I was so nauseated and losing sleep from waking up in the night to throw up.  For both pregnancies, it was gone in the 17-21 week range.  Good luck!!

  • Unfortunately, it tends to last longer for women with severe M/S.

I would start preparing yourself for it continuing into your second tri. I feel a lot better now at 17+ weeks, but still get sick sometimes. I would say I started feeling significantly better around 14 weeks.

  • It can last the whole time.  I'm still sick it got better during second tri (never left though) but then it came back in third intensifying at about 35 weeks I started vomiting again even with the zofran and I ran away from dinner several times in the last two weeks.  It toataly sucks I just want to make dinner and eat it with my husband.

  • I had all day sickness and then would feel a little bit better towards the night time. I was sick from like week 5 to maybe 11 or 12 all day everyday. I only vomited 2 times, otherwise is was just god awful nausea. I found that eating small meals every 2-2.5 hours helped alot even though I **struggled** to get it down. The reason I knew it was better than nothing was b/c if I didnt I felt way worse.  I would eat really small portions of things like a granola bars or cereal. I also lived on gingerale. What made th biggest difference is that I would eat crackers before I even got out of bed in the am. That has to have been to worst part of my pregnancy thus far. I would take back pain any day over nausea! Hang in there. Remeber just listen to you body...if you dont want to eat something dont force it, but try to find something that you can get down.
  • everyone is different. I'm 26 weeks and I still have it. If I dont take Zofran when I'm supposed to, I start getting very nauseous and start to dry heave.
