Baby Names

Honest opinons please...five weeks to go :)

We do not know whether we are having a boy or a girl, but if we have a girl we like the name Macy.  We just aren't sure that it will be quite as cute for a teenager or adult as it might be for a little girl. All the other names we like are very traditional, so this is sort of a reach for us.  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.  TIA! :)

  • Personally, I'm not a fan of Macy, for the reason you mentioned.... I don't see it as an adult name, and I don't think it would be cute in 18+ years.  There are others here who are fans of the name who may chime in to support it.  I just don't think this name, or most of the super-trendy names, will have staying power through adulthood.

    Ditto

  • Personally I think of Macy Gray the raspy singer with the huge hair who always looked a bit spun.  I imagine though that by the time your child is older that no one will make such coorelations as the singers career is kind of faded now.

As far as it carrying into adulthood, I think it will.  I don't think it is too "cutesy" of a name.  I can picture a sophisticated woman with the name Macy.

  • I like Macy. It's not a name I would ever consider because I like classics more, but it definitely is a cute name.
  • I like Macy, although I do think it sounds weird for an adults name. Maybe you can find a full name with a nn of Macy? (not sure what that would be) Good luck!
  • I really like Macy.

When I was born some of my mom's friends told her that my name wouldn't work for an adult....well, my name is Amy, I'm an adult, I'm a professional and it is working just fine.

  • I think it works for an adult's name... I can certainly picture Macy as a valedictorian, a teacher, or whatever she wants to become!  What adult wouldn't want a youthful name anyway?  Go for it!
  • I really do like it. Go for it!!
  • Sorry, I live where Macy's the store is HQed. So that's all I can think of.
  • I think Macy sounds snappy and cool. I think of it more as a name for a teen or an adult, actually. I like it. It even sounds a little classic to me--not too trendy, yet.
  • I teach high school, and have had a Macy in class.  It was hard for me to call her name, talk to her, etc. without picturing a young child.  Very cute for a little girl, but I am weary of it as an "older" name.  Just my opinion though!
  • I actually think it would work fine as an 'adult' name.  But probably because I, too, love the name Macy!
  • I really like the name Macy and think it ages well too

  • I think it's awful. Sorry.

  • I think Macy is an adorable name! I think it will age well. If you love - go for it!
  • It's a cute name but I think all the comments about "ohh is it because you like shopping there??"  would drive me nuts.
