Hi ladies!
At my big us I found out that I have an anterior placenta. After some googling, I found that some women said that the baby has a greater chance of being born face up. Since I'm only 19 weeks, I haven't done too much studying about birth but I know that having the baby face up isn't ideal. Has anyone else heard of this? If so, how does being face up affect the baby?
Re: Ladies that had anterior placentas--question.
I never read that an anterior placenta is more likely to lead to a sunny side up baby. DD#2 was sunny and I had an AP. I wound up needing a c/s, not because she was face up, but because her head wasn't tucked down, so she got stuck.
Face up doesn't affect the baby so much as it causes back labor for mom.
This.
I've never heard that but DS was indeed OP ("sunny side up") and I had an anterior placenta.
Being OP made labor much harder and more painful for me and I've heard thers is a much greater likelyhood of an OP baby having to be delivered by C/S. I almost was sectioned myself. You also have a greated chance of tearing, which I did. As for what it did to DS, he got stuck due to his position and had a gnarly bruise on his head where he was stuck. Other than that he was great.
ditto
No AP for me, but DS was face up while I labored. It caused terrible back labor for me which caused me to not sleep for two nights and get my epidural sooner. (4-5 cm) I wanted to try for no epi at all, but after those contractions...NO WAY. He was face up to start with, but turned after 3 hours of pushing and came out face down. I did have an episi which turned into a 3rd degree tear when DS was assisted out with a vaccuum.
Interesting...it does kind of make sense, since I think babies usually face their placentas.
I had an AP, and ended up having a c-section due to malpositioning. He was trying to come out face first, and he was also asynclitic (head was titled)
