24 hour urine questions

My BP is high again and I'm doing a 24 hour urine collection on Sunday. The sheet of instructions the OB gave me was pretty straight forward- pee in a cup, put the pee in a jug, put the jug in the fridge.

I googled the test for some more information and it said not to eat a ton of protein the day before starting the test. Well, I have GD, so cutting back on protein isn't really an option! Does it really matter how much protein I'm eating? 

Is there anything I need to watch for that might screw up the test? Or is it pretty much idiot proof? I need idiot proof if I'm going to have to be messing with pee in the middle of the night!

    I've done two 24 hour urines and they never mentioned any dietary restrictions, either before or during the test.

    Ditto. Exactly, actually.

    I've had two of them and no restrictions. Eating less protein seems like you would be "rigging" the test anyhow. If you body isn't filtering it properly, then you should know that.... right?

    Ditto... I have done at least 5 of them, and all were in the hospital except one, and they never said anything about diet.

    good, that makes me feel better! I have a bad feeling about the test, I've been having crazy reflexes and INSANE hot flashes/dizzy spells. But, there is pretty much no way I could deliver before 37 weeks, so that's good!

    Exactly! You are far enough along now that if the LO needs to come out, it's going to be perfectly fine!!

    I just finished my first one this morning. It was a PITA because I am not comfortable bringing it to work with me, but they said to act like it was a normal day just put all your pee in a jug.
