2nd Trimester

What do you DO with your 2 year old??

I'm in a rut and need inspiration!

I have a 2 year old (27 months) and a 3 month old. As we are finally settling back into normalcy since having the baby..I feel like I do NOTHING with my toddler.  He has every toy imaginable to play with, but we are bored.  He wants and needs me to play with him (though he is excellent on his own)  I have no idea what to do with him. He is still not into reading as much as I would like him to be, but we still do it 15 minutes each day. We do playdough, play outside (which is typically going for walks, or pushing his playmower.) He seems so unmotivated to try new things...(and yes, i understand that repetitive play is a way of learning) but i want to interact more.  Any ideas of things to do? Looking for both inside and outside play.

Thanks!

  • Does he like puzzles??  My 22 month old loves them! Puzzles and anything that sings to him he dances to.  Blowing bubbles also is fun.  The other day we made sugar cookies and he got to decorate them himself.  He loved using the cookie cutter the best and then while decorating licking his fingers.  I didn't mind they were only for me, him and daddy.

  • I meant to post this on the toddler board, but thanks for the coming suggestions!
  • *thinking this is the wrong board*

build a fort out of pillows couch cushions and blankets. Either have snack and play in there or destroy and rebuild it-

    go to a park!

Do something just him and you! I think he's having issues with mom and new baby and not just mom and him time anymore. reminding him that he's still on your mind might help! (not just alone activities that may make him feel like you dont want him around.) hope this helps.

  • We do tons of puzzles.  DS also loves to play with his trucks and matchbox cars.  Sometimes he likes to color and do paint by water.  He just got a doctor kit for his birthday and he thinks it's tons of fun to "listen" to our hearts, give us shots, etc.

  • My son and I love to go on nature walks.  We have a collection bag(brown paper bag) and a magnifying glass.  As we are walking we collect cool stuff and then when we get home we look at it all.  He especially likes the bugs, but gets really interested in pretty much all of it.
  • I'm going to do lots of felt board stuff. There are also magnets you can make and use a baking sheet as the backdrop.
  • Park, pool, beach, he loves painting, sidewalk chalk (he was coloring his water table this morning), Legos - he LOVES legos.  Unfortunately, he also loves climbing and jumping.  We have a little slide in our backyard too.  Oh, and he loves playing with rocks.  LOL
  • I have a 6 year old and he used to love painting when he was that age. He even used to love taking a cup of water and a paint brush and painting on the cement. No mess...woohoo! :)
