2nd Trimester

ladies who are worried about wt gain

for anyone whose gaining weight quickly and feeling bummed about it.. i gained 20lbs and im only 24w. A good thought that might make some of you ladies feel better .. right after you give birth you have to figure your going to instantly lose 10-20 lbs depending on how much your LO weighs and how much amniotic fluid you were holding, your also losing the placenta etc.

it makes me feel better knowing that 10-20lbs will be shed that quick =]

  • This message could not have come at a better time for me.  I went to the doctor yesterday and was upset because I have gained 18 lbs and am only 25 weeks, 4 days.  I spoke with my doctor about it and he suggested I model my food intake after weight-watchers.  He told me not to limit my calories or count points, but to make sure I am not consuming empty calories.  So I am off to the store tonight to stock up on groceries. It will be a sad good-bye to all the delicous cheeses I have been eatting.

  • Here's another happy thought for you...

Six days after delivering my daughter, I was only 5 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight.  Oh, and I had gained approx. 35 lbs.

  • I gotcha beat, sista! And I'm not worried about it one bit. I'm growing a PERSON!

    Yes

  • Not everyone loses that weight right after giving birth. I went home from the hospital weighing MORE than when I went in. I was swollen from the fluids but still. It's a great thought, but it's not always reality.

Weight gain is hard for a lot of women. It just is. And it's not a sign of how healthy the baby is or isn't. That's just silly.

  • I am 26 weeks and have gained 23 pounds so I feel pretty good about that. HOWEVER, my stomach is HUGE and I fear that it is going to explode. I cannot believe I have 3 months to go and I am already so big and my back is killing me.

Why am I larger than my other friends who are further along than I? I know we all carry differently but this is ridiculous.

  • SmallandNeedy- Just had to say, I love your new pic!

Also, just watching what I eat and exercising.  I don't want to go crazy!  I splurge though too.

  • actually i never lost 10-20 lbs after i had the baby.... i was only down 10lbs from d-day when i got pg again ( 2 1/2 years later) :)
  • I can make you feel better - Im 21 weeks and up 26 lbs.

ETA: I eat well and run or work out every day so there's not much I can do!

  • I also have gained 20lbs in 24 weeks, 10 of which were in one month. My midwife is a little worried and wants me to be really careful. Grreeeaattt
  • with my first I acutally gained 45lbs total!  And to think I did pilates regularly the first 6 months while I was able to!  The theory that the more weight you gain the healthier the baby- that is silly!  My little man was 7lbs 11oz. and healthy, but I was the one who still held onto the weight.  When I found I was pregnant with #2 I was only 3lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight, but not as toned.....

  • I Love you ladies because you always see these weight polls and the ladies on there are like 19 wks and 5 pound weight gain or something and I always leave feeling suckey.  I was even guilty of doing a weight poll when I first got on here and was flamed for being 17 wks and 14 pound weight gain (i think)  Some girl even told me I was too big, I needed to run!

Anyways thanks for this post I have my 21 wks appt on the 10th and I'm not sure what the weights going to look like but I try to eat good and I walk every night so...what ya gonna do :)

  • Ive gained 9 lbs at 25 weeks, and I cant fit into any pants I swear its all tummy and booty!  Ive been eating normal and doctor says its good weight gain...but dont worry I know Ill be one of those woman who play catch up in the end!

  • Yes, thanks for the post!  I am a Weight Watchers lifetime member prior to getting pregnant and down about 30 pounds in the past year.  I have gained more than I thought I would, but I had to eat every couple of hours during the first tri or I was extremely nauseous. I've been exercising about 5 times/week consistently and eating healthy foods, but still have gained more than 15 lbs.  This makes me feel so much better.  When I see the posts about ladies only gaining 5-10 lbs at 20 weeks, it's depressing, but I figure that there are many other women who have gained more and just don't feel the need to fess up!  I lost 30+ pounds before, I'm sure I can do it again!
