Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Does your baby "shake" as (s)he goes to sleep? My mom is freaking me out

My mom has been watching DS for the past few weeks, and she said yesterday and today, he will shake as he's going to sleep. She said its not like he's shivering, but its like his muscles are relaxing and he starts to shake. WTH? I've never seen him do this, and my imagination of this is freaking me out. I had never heard of this before. Has this ever happened with your LO? Ever heard of this?

  • DS sleeps on his belly and tends to keep his fists loosely clenched. When he is waking up, I have seen his hands shake quickly. I don't know if this helps or makes you not freak out...

my dh and my ds do this. its like their nerves are firing which makes them jerk a bit as they fall to sleep. is that what you mean?
  • When my ds was around 5.5 months as I was feeding him, he was drifting off to sleep and started to shake his head and arms rapidly.

DS did it a couple times after that, and it was always while falling asleep.  Pedi said it was most likely a twitch thing ds would do as he fell asleep.  He never really explained but I chalked it up to a muscular thing..they were relaxing and causing it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • Thanks guys - what you described sounded like what she described. We just went to the dr. on Monday for a check up, but I might call the nurse and see what she says if he keeps doing it. I hate it when people tell me my kid is doing something out of the ordinary!
