Just called the OB's office. I haven't kept anything down in two days...not even water. The nurse said to try unisom. She said it will make the nausea and vomiting go away. If I'm still throwing up tomorrow I am supposed to go in and get IV fluids.
Anyone try unisom? What was your experience?
Re: Unisom?
I have been on it since 8 weeks, and it has been my lifesaver! You only need half a tablet at bedtime (12.5 mg). My dr. also said that another quarter tablet during the day is fine, but I only had to do that twice. Now I'm finally feeling better, so I'm going to stop taking it. But it worked great for me!!
Oh, and when my mom was pregnant, they recommended the same thing (this was 25 years ago!). I also heard that taking vitamin B6 (25 mg) 4 times a day as well will help. GL!
It did not work for me. I had to get a Rx for Zofran.
Unisom is sold as a sleep aid. It is an antihistamine, though. The same drug that's in Benadryl. I'm pretty sure 1 dose is 2 tablets, 50 mg. So I don't think a quarter of a tablet during the day would really knock you out, unless you're very sensitive to Benadryl.
ETA: aha! I never found any with doxylamine in it. All they had at my pharmacy was the diphenhydramine kind.
I asked for Zofran and was told I didn't need it. I throw up 2-3 times a day most weeks. I'm so frustrated...especially since these past two days i have kept nothing down. I threw up FIFTEEN times yesterday. FIFTEEN! And the doctor thinks this is normal.
This. And I'm pretty sensitive to meds, since I don't take them ever, unless I have to. And I was at the point where I was desperate, so thank goodness I tried it!
Wow. That doesn't seem right. I've heard of women with less symptoms who get Zofran. Aren't you dehydrated? I'm sorry you're going through that...
I would skip the OB and go right to the ER. Now. Vomiting 15 times/day is dangerous and you need to get some effective treatment ASAP. And register a complaint against the nurse who said throwing up 15 times in a day is "normal."
Ugh. I guess some doctors are more stingy with Rxes than others. Sorry! I hope something works for you and/or the doctor sees the light.
This. seriously. I'm worried about you.
