Advice...selling twin/baby items

So, I'm looking for some advice here....our girls are a year old...and their stuff is taking over (tons of clothes, baby gear, you name it)...we MAY want another baby (lots of potential reasons why there may  not be another, but for right now it's a pipe dream)...anyways....our local MOTC sale is Aug 29 and I want to sell some stuff (basically I NEED to b/c we cannot afford to just give away all the stuff we have for them)...but how do I determine what to sell and what to keep?

 TIA.

Re: Advice...selling twin/baby items

  • We have been selling everything.  I am keeping clothes that hold a sentimental reason to me and dh and I plan on using them to make a quilt.

    We are not sure either if we want more kids but we figured it will be at least a couple years before we do and we are not going to store the big items like swings and whatnot for 3+ years it is worth it to sell them and just buy new ones if we end up needing them.

    Good luck.

  • I kept the equipment that I found to be useful but sold some of it if I had doubles (high chair, bumbo etc).  I sold outfits that I had two of but kept onesies, pants, pj's etc that were still in good shape.  Of the things I kept I tried to weed out items I had too many of.  For example, if I had 10 pairs of PJ's I kept 5 b/c one baby doesn' t need so many options!  I also kept most of the toys.

    I wasn't sure if we would have another baby but I didn't want to have to start over from scratch if we did.  Little did I know we would need it all so soon!  And lucky for us that #3 was a boy too.  DH was sweating having a girl b/c we'd have to buy clothes and accessories for her!  Wink

  • We are not in the same situation b/c we plan on not having anymore so I want to sell everything as soon as I can.

    But one idea for you - you could sell everything now and then if/when you have another LO you can buy what you need at another MOTC sale.  That way (as pp said) you do not need to store the large items and you can sell your items while they are still "new."  Maybe hang on to any item that was a life saver and your afraid you may never find it again.

  • Thanks ladies for the great advice, I knew I could count on you guys! :) Dh and I decided that we're selling 1/2 of everything and then some doubles of stuff I'm not as fond of...most of our stuff is in GREAT shape (b/c I am very particular about stains, etc...and b/c my girls were breastfed, which doesn't tend to stain)...we're also going to sell my double snap n go another stroller we have that I find too bulky for my trunk and 1/2 of the other gear we have...but are going to keep most if not all of their toys...fun times...now off to start dividing and then the long arduous process of labeling according to MOTC specificiations! Fun. :)
  • I just tried to think through, "Which of these things would I not need for Baby #3?" (Some of these things we're still using but since your LOs are older they may apply). So I am planning to sell:

    * Our Double Snap n Go

    * One of our Snugrides

    * 2 of our bouncy seats (we ended up with 3; I'll just keep our favorite)

    * One of our Boppys, 2 of our 4 Boppy covers

    * my EZ2Nurse pillow

    * outgrown matching outfits (I'm keeping a few for sentimental value and I might keep one of some others that I really like and just sell one)

    * Arm's Reach Original Cosleeper (for the next baby we'll just use the PnP bassinet, since the 15-lb weight limit goes much farther with only one baby!)

    Anything else you have two of, too--a swing, a Bumbo, extra toys, playmats, etc. Keep the one you like best and sell the other one, unless you'd still want two for a second baby. (e.g. if you wanted a Bumbo upstairs and one downstairs.)

  • totally forgot about my Ez2 nurse pillow that I never used...darned preemies! :(

    Great idea on stuff upstairs and downstairs though...that does cut out some stuff...esp b/c once the girls are older we'll be spending more time in teh playroom downstairs!
