Ok, I just want to know if there are other people like me out there. I keep reading posts on people that lost weight first tri or haven't gained any, or gained the "recommended" 2 to 3 max of 5 pounds. I DID NOT HAVE MORNING SICKNESS at all and still haven't, so I have eaten my recommended calories everday. I eat very, very healthy, lots of veggies, fruit, salads, low fat cheese, high fiber/healthy whole grain carbs, etc. and I am not overeating. I only indulge in "bad stuff" about once a week and even then it's not a supersized combo meal at McDonalds, I rarely eat fast food. I have gained somewhere between 7 and 9 pounds now. I weighed 120 pp and am 5'3". I've been excercising about 4 to 5 times a week doing cardio, light weights and prenatal yoga. I talked to my sister this morning and she is around the same height/weight as me and she says she gained about 7 in the first tri and only ended up gaining between 25 and 30 with both her kids.
Is anyone else in this same situation? Please don't reply if you are on of the people who lost weight or only gained 2 pounds as I don't need it rubbed in my face.
I know I'm supposed to gain weight, but I just want to make sure it's healthy and that I don't gain too much and have to have a c-section since my doctor already said I'm really small internally. Thanks.
Re: Weight gain in the first tri-people with a healthy starting BMI...
I KNOW I'm not overweight! Why do you think I said normal BMI!!!!!??? I am just saying that I have gained more in the first tri than the recommended and if I continue at this rate, I may gain 40. That's what I'm worried about.
I have a very similar experience as you. My BMI prepregnacy was 18 (5'1", 98lbs), I now weigh 109lbs. I had no morning sickness either, and did not loose any weight at all during first tri. I also eat well balanced like you, but I probably exercise less than you are. (I walk and do yoga)
I wouldn't worry about your weight gain, I read the average gain was 5lbs at end of first tri. Everyone is different. All those women that have severe nausea/vomiting and loose weight in first tri bring that average down...if you think of it that way. If you are worried, bring up to your doctor at next visit. I think you are fine though!
I understand where you are coming from but really I would try not to worry too much. I'm 5'2" and started around 120 too. I'm pretty sure that by my next appt I'll be at least 132. It kind of freaked me out at first too, I'm not so worried about losing it afterwards as I am about gaining too much weight and it making the last months of my pregnancy really miserable. I am very small framed and at 120 was on the heavy side for my "norm" so I was/am a little worried how well I will be able to carry another 30 lbs or so.
Just keep eating healthy and getting exercise and recognize that some things are simply out of your control.
First calm down. Secondly, as others have said as long as your doc isn't concerned don't worry about it. I'm small to begin with and didn't gain much first tri but have definitely started to catch up. I was concerned but my doctor thinks that I'm right on track and told me not to worry. They said sometimes smaller people will gain weight at a faster pace because we need to gain more than the average 25-30 pounds. Don't stress about it.
Sorry for the all caps, I was just responding to the person who was saying I thought I was overweight, which is not it at all. I will stop worrying about this and talk to my doctor next week at my appointment.
Why are you asking a message board what is healthy for you and your baby? Ask your doctor.
As far as the numbers, according to my calculator you are on track to gain around 27 lbs so I don't see WTF your freakout is about, sorry.
Geez, excuse me! I thought these message boards were to ask opinions of others and see if others were in your same situation! At least that is what I have read from other people's posts. Of course I'm going to ask my dr. I go next week for my appointment.
Wow.
I was really concerned at first too, I'm 5'3" and started in the 120's. But I feel like I was focusing too much on my weight, so I have stopped weighing in. I have no idea how much I have gained, I will find out next Friday. I have been eating pretty much what I want but in moderation, and alot of what I want is healthy. Don't stress too much about, it sound likes your doing everything right so your body is going to do whats best for you and baby. Healthy gradual weight gain will be alot easier to lose too. Even if you do gain 40 pounds if you gain in gradually and eat and exercise right, it will come off easier than so peoples 25 pounds. Don't stress.
BTW my friend ate everything she wanted her first pregnancy, and during her second she watched everything she ate and gained the same both times.
Actually what I was looking for was for other people in a similar situation. I have a dr. appointment next week. I was very detailed in my post because poeple on here can be very sarcastic and also rude, and I was just looking to hear from people similar to me that were in a similar situation, that's all. Sorry for the post to those who it offended. I may be leaving the bump and sticking to my books and doctor.
Hi. Welcome to TheBump.com.
As with any message board, the way to figure out the dynamic is to lurk awhile before you post.
A little welcome gift for you:
I just peed a little!
I've actually been on the bump for a while now...just hadn't had such rude comments in the past. A majority were good feedback. I guess this is just a touchy subject and all women on here are pregnant and therefore moody-including me. ;-) So sorry!!!

I'm 16 weeks and I've gained 10 pounds already. I was pretty small before (115 lbs 5'2). I'm not gorging myself on junk and have been walkling a lot and doing yoga. I asked my OB about this yesterday and she said that as long as you are exercising and eating healthy still and only eating about 300 more calories a day, then not to worry about it. Your body will gain what it is supposed to. And some ladies gain more at first than later on in the pregnancy. We will continue to watch my weight gain, but for now she said now to worry about it.
I understand where you're coming from and your concerns. I'm 5'5 and weighed ~125 before I got pregnant (not sure of my exact weight). I also didn't have any morning sickness during 1st tri and continued to eat my regular, healthful diet with lots of fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. I did indulge in dessert more freqently (and still do!) but never overdid it. And like you, I rarely eat fast food. Unlike you, however, I didn't exercise as regularly during 1st tri due to a combination of laziness and fatigue.
I tell you all of this because I'm pretty sure I also gained around 7-8lbs during the 1st trimester. I'm now up roughly ~14lbs (I think - my scale at home can be wonky). I also fall under the recommended 25-35lb weight gain guideline and I admit that it's a little daunting to realize I'm already halfway there. But I know I'm eating healthy and I've started exercising again regularly again, so I just figure my body's gaining what it's supposed to gain to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. And my doctor seems happy, so I'm happy. So, try not to worry - your body's just doing what it needs (and is supposed to) do.
And look, honest answer?
My first pregnancy, I gained something like 8 lbs in my first trimester, then gained 8 more the rest of my pregnancy.
This time I lost 5 lbs (oh noz!) in my first trimester, and am gaining extremely slowly. I may gain 30 lbs over the next several weeks. I just don't know.
Every body is different. Every pregnancy is different. Your OB/MW will tell you if there is something to be concerned about. If you ask them if you should be concerned about your weight gain, and they say "nope," then you shouldn't worry about your weight gain. If you ask them if you should be concerned about your weight gain, and they say "yeah... " then tehy'll give you some suggestions.
In the meantime, you're making yourself upset over Nuh-thing.
All of this....oh and eff you.
My SIL who usually wears a size 2 and is very healthy (no processed, prepared foods, only organic vegetables, etc) gained 10lbs in the first trimester. I didn't gain any weight, don't eat nearly as well as she does and didn't have morning sickness. Everyone is different and comparing yourself to others won't do you any good (except make you upset).
As long as you are eating balanced healthy meals, don't worry about how much you have gained.
And if you gain 40lbs, then you gain 40lbs. It will be OK. You're eating well. You're staying active. In short, you're doing everything you can do to ensure a healthy pregnancy. So to sit there and obsess over a number is pointless (and counteractive considering stress is bad for the baby). Seriously. Your body is going to gain what it needs to gain, provided you're not binging on Ben & Jerry's every night and leading a sedentary lifestyle. Which you're not. So stop worrying about it - you're fine.
You're gonna have fun here. ?
Our family blog
I easily gained close to 10 pounds in first tri - I too had no nausea or sickness, and I was sticking myself with massive quantities of hormones until 10 weeks, which didn't help
I'm not too concerned about it - I've only gained a couple of pounds since then and at 19 weeks, am up about 12 pounds.
Not only is everyone different in how much they gain, but some gain a lot right away and slow down, while others gain little up front then pack it on at the end. As long as you are getting exercise and making decent food choices, you're fine!
(and FWIW, I was 5'8" 145# when I first got my BFP).

I Don't think anyone was rude to you. If anything, I was surprised at how nice they were considering you were pretty snarky in some of your posts.
I dont see the problem. If you gain 40 lbs, you gain 40 lbs. Your baby is more important than weight gain and the weight gain is obviously waht is needed for babe to be healthy since you say you are eating right and working out.

Hmmm... while I still stand by my [very nice] original response, I will also give you a bit of advice that is, admittedly, on the snarky side:
1. Lurk.
2. Put your big girl panties on.
If you'd lurked, you'd know that weight posts aren't exactly embraced around here as they generally only serve to make people a.) feel bad, and b.) worried about their own weight gain.
Also, if you'd lurked a little, you'd know about snark. And if you'd worn your big girl panties, you'd be able to handle that snark when you decided to post something about weight gain.
Have a nice day.

It sounds like you are leading a very healthy lifestyle. Don't worry too much about the 4-6 "extra" pounds you think you have. Everyone else will catch up eventually. I find it hard to believe that 5 pounds is going to be the difference between a vag or c-scetion delivery for you. You seem to be right on track.
Relax. She was trying to make you feel better.
People tend to gain weight at different times. Your body may gain more at the beginning and less at the end. Or, you may indeed be someone who gains 40 lbs. If you're eating well and working out, what else can you do?
