My DH and I have been considering the diaper genie, diaper champ, etc., but are wondering if they're really worth it. Some reviews I've read say they're cheap, or that poopy diapers are going to smell no matter where/how you dispose of them (which I remember can be so true from my younger brothers).
Part of me thinks I just can't justify purchasing a $30-$40 trash can, but you ladies would know better. Is it worth it?
Re: Question from 3rd Tri: Diaper Genie
I personally like the diaper champ instead of the diaper genie. The diaper genie stinks and buying those refills could get pricey. (The diaper champ uses regular trash bags)
But honestly we hardly use our diaper champ.
Get a diaper genie II elite. It hides the smell.. the other ones do NOTHING. My little SIL got one of the other ones and my nephews' room smells like sh!t. Seriously. It's awful.
I couldn't say anything to her so... I told my mom and she's there visiting and bought them a whole new genie set. Thank Goodnes..
ETA: A lot of women here aren't feeding solids so they don't have the uber stanky diapers. I have some stankeroos and a very sensitive sniffer. Nothing has escapered that genie. You get what you pay for here.
Definitely understand stairs issue! And, we do have some of those scented diaper disposable bags you mentioned, but we'll make sure to get more.
The bag issue with the diaper genie is one of the factors we were considering. We're already going to have to buy diapers/wipes/nursing bra pads etc on a regular basis, we didn't want to pay for bags that we get for free while grocery shopping!
Thanks:)
Same. We have the Diaper Genie II. Not the elite. I buy refills when they're on sale which ends up being not much more than the cost of regular trash bags.
This is what we've been considering because of the cost of things. Good thing I came here; am very appreciative of being able to talk to people rather than stare at price tags!
We have a diaper champ and I love it.
And, no matter what you get or use, I *HIGHLY* reccomend spraying it down with lysol every time you change the bag. It will help keep smells and germs to a minimum.
