2nd Trimester

Caesar Dressing?

are we not supposed to eat this because it's made with raw eggs?

I haven't ordered it at a restuarant for fear of.

What about the kind in the pre-made salad kits from the grocery store or just a bottle of it.  They say eggs in ingredients, so does that mean they are off limits?

Thanks.

Re: Caesar Dressing?

  • If it's real Caesar I would stay away from it. You can always ask because a lot of restaurants don't use real Caesar with eggs.

  • im pretty sure the stuff in the bottle from the store is fine, its pasteurized. ive also had plenty caesar salads from restaurants i know aren't going to give me food poisoning. i wouldnt worry too much!

most Caesar dressings should be fine.  DH makes a "real" caesar with raw eggs.  We got a carton of Egg Beaters (which is pasteurized) and use that instead.  It turned out really well!

  • I had the worst craving for it 1st trimester and have been good avoided it.  The stuff in the salad kits that have egg products i just assume are raw eggs, since cooked eggs can't work.  Sorry to be a bummer, but I would just avoid it to be safe :(.

But they're pasteurized, so they're fine.  The risk with caesar and raw eggs is salmonella.  Salmonella will make you hella sick, but unless you become severely dehydrated, won't harm the baby.  I've eaten caesar made with raw eggs, but only at a restaurant that I really trust.
