2nd Trimester

my H saw everything

the doctor told him to grab a leg and hang on.  he saw our daughter coming out, he saw her take her first breath and come to life.  i had my eyes squeezed shut pushing, so i saw none of it.  he saw it all and it has never once affected how he feels about me or my body.  just sayin'... there's a lot more going on in that moment than blood coming out of your vagina.

Re: my H saw everything

  • My DH is so funny because he said there is no way he wants to watch it (he wants to stay by my head).  I almost can guarentee that he will be right down there when the time comes.

He also said he didn't want to cut the cord at 12 weeks, but by the time our big u/s came around he had changed his mind.

  • DH told me he plans on watching the whole thing... I'm not disturbed by it at all.  But we'll see how he holds up. heh

My husband said the same thing but ended up looking when the dr said "look theres your babies head".  And our dr didn't ask him if he wanted to cut the cord but this time he said he is definatly going to cut it.  I'm just going to make that part of our birth plan.

    Yes

DH said it's the most amazing thing he's ever witnessed.

  • Haha my bff had her son 19 days before DS was born.  When we were at the hospital after bff had her baby I was walking behind DH and bff's DH listening to him tell my husband what it was like.  DH said to bff's DH "I thought you were going to stay up top?!?!?"  Bff's DH replied with "THERE IS NO UP TOP!!!!"  LoL  So so true!!

DH saw everything as well and he obviously wasn't too disturbed since I'm KU again!  :)

I have a feeling that DH will be looking more at the toothpaste instead of the tube.

  • I agree with you. Our OB is very hands on and during appts always has DH feel where our little guy is and has him feel different body parts (a leg, his shoulder etc). I expect our doc will be the same in the delivery room and my DH is actually excited. I think knowing that he will be seeing our little guy take his first breath and cry will be awesome for him and I doubt he will be thinking about me or how gross things might be. Then again me and DH are pretty open about other things too.

  • My husband said he wouldn't watch the actual birth, and he did not.

  • DH had no plans to go below my shoulders, but the nurse said, "here take this leg and help her push," and he followed orders.  please see my post about what happened during the c/s if you are curious about that!

he got to be with DS while he was being resuscitated/given his first breath, which i didn't get to see any of/know it was even going on.  dads are important too.

     Too funny!

Prior to giving birth to our daughter, I had said that I wasn't going to be one of those women who watched the birth in the mirror or wanted my husband to see ANY of the delivery. My husband agreed with me and said he had no desire to leave my head.  Once we were in the midst of delivery, doc asked if I wanted to see the head crowning.  And for some reason, I did! It was amazing to see.  The doc asked my husband the same thing and he wanted to see it as well.  He watched the remainder of the delivery from down below and was never grossed out by anything.  Nothing has changed as far as our sex life goes.

For this delivery, if he wants to view things, great.  If he doesn't great.  I'm not going to stress about it because you never know how things will change once you are in the delivery room.

    Yes

I, personally, would never ask my husband to avoid watching the moment of his child's grand entrance into the world because of my own insecurities. If *he* opts not to, that's one thing, but I'd never make that choice for him.

To each her own, of course, but that's just me.

Oh man... I thought for a minute you meant he grabbed one of the baby's legs, like she came out breech!

I actually heard Judd Apatow talking about this, because he had that scene in Knocked Up... he said he thinks men who are afraid to watch or be part of the birth are immature, and the reality is it does not negatively affect most men's view of their wives or how they feel about sex after that. It is the birth of their child too, after all.

That's just silly. My husband didn't watch our children come out. He is just too squeamish. He doesn't do blood or vomit...he passes out. LOL.
