Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Back from my d/e

Hi Ladies,

For all of you who are getting a d/e, I just had mine this morning and it was over fast and went smoothly.  It was a quick procedure and I'm in no pain, morphine is working very good.

The doctors were all so sympathetic and it was nice to be validated that this was a loss and they were all sorry that I had to go through this.

In 2 weeks they get the pathology report back.  They are testing the tissue to see if this was a molar pregnancy.  I don't know if I heard correctly but I think they said molar and I hope it doesn't test positive.

They said if I did test positive I'd have to wait 6 to 12 months before I become pregnant again.  That is way too long!  Praying its not a molar.

I wish they could tell me more about the baby like... would it have been a girl or boy?

Ladies after your d/c or d/e how long did you spot and bleed?

Re: Back from my d/e

  • I'm glad it went well.  My bleeding lasted for 20 something days but I had complications after my D&E and had to have a D&C 8 hours later, so that may have been some of it.

I hope it wasn't a molar as well, let us know what they say.  Praying that it wasn't.

The pathology results should be able to tell you if the baby was a boy or a girl.  Ours validated that it was a little girl, we had an u/s that showed she most likely was a girl and the pathology report just told us for sure.  So, I would ask them when they tell you the results.  Good luck.

  • I spotted/bled for about 20 days also.. only because I passed some tissue left over from my D&C. I think most ladies spot/bleed for about a week normally.

  • After my d&c I bled for 2 days(VERY HEAVY) but then a week and 1/2 later I had bleeding for 1 day and that was it. ?
  • Oh I am definately asking! I didn't know they'd have those results to share with me.  I thought I'd have to ask for some fancy test or something.

By the way, wow you were going to have a little girl? I'm sorry, god bless.

  • i'm glad that the procedure went as well as possible and you're not in any pain right now. for me, i spotted on and off for the first 5 days (bled one day, stopped the next, bled, then stopped, etc) and then i started getting more pain and passing clots. the doc put me on some drugs and that did the trick. then i started spotting two weeks later, which lasted two weeks, followed by bleeding like a period, followed by this cycle.

i hope you heal quickly, and keep us updated on the path report...

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad to hear you are physically feeling okay today. I had my d&c yesterday and my bleeding has basically subsided. I am hoping, for your sake, it wasn't molar. Please keep us posted.
  • Thanks Swayze, thanks everyone.  I'm going to be optamistic and expect that it's not molar. On a high note I found out my blood type.  It's funny I am 30 yrs old and I never knew my blood type.  I am A positive and RH something negative. Swayze are they testing you too for molar?

Final thought, I wish none of us had to go through this. :o(

  • Brunette mac,

No, they are not testing me for molar as my doctor diagnosed me with a blighted ovum. I had my first u/s at what would have been 8 weeks and the sac was measuring at 5. They waited a week and the sac had only grown 2mm and my betas were not doubling. My dr gave me the choice of m/c naturally or having the d&c. After talking it over with my DH, we choose the d&c to help my healing emotionally. I am about to be 30 as well. Is this your first child too? I understand how hard this is. My dr told me we have to wait two months to TTC again...I don't know how to do that....the thought of waiting even longer is killing me. Keep me updated.

  • I had my D&E on a Friday and I stopped bleeding the Monday following.  I haven't had any spotting since.  I go back for my 2 week f/u tomorrow.  I'm so nervous to hear the results-particularly if our LO was a boy or a girl.

Glad to hear you are feeling well!

  • I'm glad your d&e went well and you're not in any pain.  I hope you find out what you want to hear - non-molar, sex and that you can ttc soon.
  • I had a D&E on Monday.  I had what I guess you could call medium-heavy flow right after and that afternoon.  By Monday evening it had turned into a light flow.  Now I am just having spotting, even though it's still pinkish/red.   I'm able to use a panty liner and not have any issues.  I was cramping a little bit this morning and saw what looked like a small clot in the toilet, but that's been the worst of it.  Hopefully it stays that way!  The doctor told me that the bleeding could last up to a week.

By the way, I'm 30 also (almost 31) and just found out my blood type recently too!

  • I had my d/c 2 weeks ago today.  I bled for about 1 week, first couple of days rather heavy, after that lighter and just spotting on some days.  No bleeding this past week.  I had terrible cramps though the whole time, they lasted until last week.  I guess my body feels back to normal for the most part now, thankfully!

  • I passed on my own (no d&c) at about 10 weeks... it's been 1 week since I started and it seems that the bleeding is letting up.  I'm hoping to stop in a day or two... sort of like a "regular" period.

I wish there would've been some way to tell what had happened and even if it was a boy or a girl.  We're just calling our baby "Sprinkle" since that's what we called him while he was with us.  (My DH got all excited one day and was reading preggo websites and one told him that the baby was the size of a sprinkle...lol)
