Hello--I'm considering another pg but am scared given I've recently learned I have both of these factors, which they think may have contributed to at least one or some of my four losses. I do have one child, so I know I CAN have children, thankfully. I learned about the factors after having my dd, though, so I"m just curious about how others with these factors are treated during pg. My doctors mentioned blood thinners while pg and baby aspirin each day (even now, before pg), and that I'd need to keep seeing the RE AND a high risk ob. One doctor mentioned I "could" see a hemotologist, as well. Do you need to see a hemotologist, an RE AND a high risk doc (plus regular visits with a "normal" ob?). Seems like a lot of doctors to me--thought they all assure me the condition isn't dangerous enough to rule out getting pg again. What advice have you received?
Re: Factor V and/or PAI-1/other clotting issues
I have APS and I see my ob, mfm and a hemotologist while pregnant. I have 4 losses so my thought process is the more who are invloved and can help me have a safe and healthy pregnancy the better.
And I'm on lovenox (blood thinner) already even though I'm not pregnant so hopefully with it in my system I won't have an early loss, so all that you mentioned is very normal for high-risk pregnancies.
I have the Factor V Leiden heterozygous mutation, identified after a pulmonary embolism in 2007. I was started on Lovenox as soon as it was known I was pregnant. By the way, there is nothing fun about Lovenox.
Before the pregnancy, I saw a hematologist as needed and a regular ob for annuals and birth control. I had a preconception appointent with my perinatologist. Now, I only see a perinatologist/maternal fetal medicine specialist and not the hematologist or ob. Since becoming pregnant, I've seen the perinatologist at least every other week and now every week.
My OB is high risk but I don't have to see a "reg" ob also. He does it all. I have a hemotologist, but I haven't had a clot in a few years so I don't currently visit him. I have Factor V Leiden identified after a major dvt in 2003. I had one m/c in 2002 before my diagnosis, but it's impossible to tell whether or not it was Factor V related. I have a dd born in 2005 and was on lovenox during that pregnancy. I am currently doing the lovenox thing again for this pg. It's really not a big deal to me. I have never minded getting shots. The hardest part to me is remembering to do the shot! I definitely wouldn't let it keep me from having more kids. Good luck with your decision!
