baby girl name help....

Just found out we're having a girl.  I'm super excited, but i got stuck loving the name Tyson for a boy.  Please tell me your thoughts on the name Tyson for a girl.  Is it too strong/masculine of a name for a girl???? what is the spelling was Tysen, or does that really matter...ahhh!

Re: baby girl name help....

  • I think it's a boy name and don't like it for a girl with any spelling.  Sorry!

  • I think it's rough sounding for a girl. What about girly-ing it up? Like Tyla or Tyra?
  • Definitely NOT for a girl!!!!

  • I think Tyson is acceptable for a boy, but is a terrible name for a girl!!! Sounds very masculine, and also makes me think of Mike Tyson, or Tyson chicken. Sorry :(

  • Definitely a boys name.  Sorry.

  • Save Tyson for when you have a little boy.  I'm sure you will find a girl name that you fall in love with too!

  • Yeah, I agree, too masculine.  Not one of those names that will work as a girl.  Good luck!
  • Def a boy name, I am not a fan of boy names for girl. You can save it for your next child.
  • def. not a girls name!
  • definitely not a girl name. you have plenty of time to find a girl name you love, I'm sure you will!
  • I feel like there are so many other name options for a girl- I prefer more feminine girl names. Tyson reminds me of chicken or Mike Tyson, not exactly the images I'd want to associate with my daughter...

  • It has the word "Son" in it. Definatley a boy's name. I would save it- we had several girls names, and just picked one for a boy. You will come up with something eventually.

  • Tysen looks illiterate. Tyson isn't horrible for a girl, it is a bit masculine, but you might get away with it if you paired it with a super girly middle name.

  • I don't think it translates to a girl name well at all...leave it for the boys.

If you love it, do it!!  If other people don't like it, screw 'em! I think it's adorable... if it helps, I once babysat for a girl named Tyler and my girl cousin's name is Ryan.  Names don't become acceptable for both genders until someone starts using them as such.

Names that used to be just for boys: Ashley, Morgan, Stevie, Taylor... I'm sure there's a skillion more, but that's what I could think of right now...

  • Don't do it. I have a unisex name, and it is really annoying when people think I'm a man. I imagine it would be even worse if I had a man's name.
  • While I think some boy names can be cute for girls (um, my name is Andie), I'm not sure about this one.  No matter how you spell it, I think it's very masculine.  DH and I have the opposite problem (or might)--we have agreed on a girl name that we both love, but can't think of anything we like for a boy.  I haven't had my big u/s yet, so we'll see how that works out!  Good luck!!
  • I knew one girl named Tyson and she was obnoxious and "rough around the edges"

  • Definitly boy, take it from a girl named Shawn it was a rough childhood.  Ok now but I suggest not doing it to your little girl.
