I had my 18w appt yesterday and I met another OB in the practice and I was not a fan at all. I found him to be very patronizing, in a rush and so rude, but in that smug, "aren't I charming you with a flash of my pearly whites?" kind of way. I had a list of ?s for him about still getting sick, concerns about my protein intake (or lack there of), some bw results, my birth plan etc...and he was so dismissive. His response to everything was, "Yep, yep. You're fine. No problem!"
He answered a personal cell call right in the middle of the appt and just walked out with out excusing himself. He also walked out at the end and I was apparently supposed to know by telepathy that I was being invited to his office.
I won't even get into about I feel like he lied to me about how supportive their natural birth policies are or how he was just telling me what I wanted to hear in regards to my birth plan. He refused to give me specifics and avoided direct questions. One highlight was when I asked how much freedom of movement I would have during active labor and after telling me 3 different versions, he finally said I would be in bed and monitored constantly at the point because, "You won't feel like moving anyway and you will be much more comfortable in bed." Seriously???
We toured a midwifery group last week and I was 99% sure I was switching, but this appt confirmed it. I have liked everyone else, but had my concerns in general and they are so far from my house and this sealed the deal. I cannot imagine him being my doc at delivery...
Vent over, thanks for reading!
Re: Vent: OB really annoyed me!
How horrible!! This is one of my fears...I've only seen my OB and there are at least 4 other docs who could be the one delivering me when the time comes. I have it on my list of questions for Thurs. to ask my OB if/when I get to meet the other docs in the practice.
I'm glad you found a group you like better.
Talk about unprofessional!
The practice I used is all women. I wanted someone who has actually give birth so when I had questions they could actually answer them. Thankfully everyone I've met (haven't met 2 of them yet) has been super nice and very understanding w/ all of my questions.
Im sorry he was such a jerk. Hopefully you don't have to see him again and hopefully he isn't the one delivering your baby!
Ugh! How rude!
Good for you for switching - being comfortable with your healthcare providers is important!
That is so lame...I really hate some doctors. But I'm glad you have a replacement lined up! Yay for midwives!
