Give me discipline advice or recs for books on this topic please...

DD just turned one and we need to figure out how we plan to discipline her. Right now, she is just learning boundaries and just needs to be taught to stay away from things that can hurt her, but I want to set a solid foundation and be very consistent. DD wants to smach the hand, but I don't know if that is the best way or if she is too young. I want to do more research on the topic.

I remember having this question when my DS was 1. Generally, at that age, redirection is the most appropriate response. Many toddlers go through a hitting phase sometime between 1 yr and 2 yrs. If you are smacking her hand, I think you'll have difficulty teaching her that hitting is not okay.

I'm reading Toddlerwise right now. We did Babywise so I figured it would follow right along. Seems to work out well.
